Iowa All-Junior Team
First Team
Junior of the Year: Joe Wieskamp (Muscatine)
30.4 PPG (56 FG%, 41 3FG%), 1.8 SGP, 2.0 BPG, 10.2 RPG
Iowa’s Gatorade Player of the Year was a no-brainer for our Junior of the Year. The future Iowa Hawkeyes wing not only led 4A in scoring, but the entire state regardless of class, netting 30.8 per game. Despite being hounded each night out his shooting percentages were stellar. It’s scary to think he still has another year left to torment opponents.
AJ Green (Cedar Falls) — 21.5 PPG, 72 3s (43 3FG%), 4.2 RPG
A supremely gifted point guard, Green was listed as our 2nd-ranked player in our All-Class Top-30 published before the season (Wieskamp was first). Green lived up to the hype this winter and picked up an Iowa State offer in the process. He now holds mid-high-major offers from Northern Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa State.
Van Rees (Sioux City East) — 20.8 PPG (57 FG%), 11.8 RPG
We loved Ress’ workmanlike approach to the game when we saw him at the state tournament earlier this month, and it was plain to see how he was able to put up those huge numbers. He’s a tweener position-wise player, a 6’6 combo-forward who can hit a jumper and is capable of playing from the perimeter. It will be interesting to see what offers he may pick up this summer with the Martin Brothers.
Brady Sartorius (Mount Pleasant) — 21.8 PPG (59 FG%, 47 3FG%), 4.3 APG, 2.8 SPG
For three seasons now this 6′ guard has been the steady hand for the Mustangs, and he really came to a boil this winter. An athletic and solid lead guard, Sartorius may not be flashy, but he gets the job done with a smooth jumper, blazing quickness and tough defense. He’ll play with Kingdom Hoops this spring after playing with the Iowa Barnstormers the past several offseasons.
Garrett Sturtz (Newton) — 19.8 PPG, 1.9 SPG, 6.3 RPG
This lengthy 6’3 guard has enjoyed a meteoric rise the past year-and-a-half. First we noticed his solid numbers as a sophomore with the Cardinals, then he was torching opponents all spring and summer with Iowa Intensity, and he was stunningly good this season with Newton. Good enough to lead them to the state tournament and nearly pull off an upset of eventual champion Iowa City West.
Second Team
Sam Ingoli (Dowling) — 14.2 PPG (58 FG%, 44 3FG%), 3.1 APG, 7.4 RPG

Matthew Mims (Xavier) — 15.3 PPG, 5.2 APG, 1.7 SPG

Luke Vaske (Norwalk) — 20.1 PPG, 62 3s (42 3FG%), 3.5 RPG
Third Team
