Northstar Hoops Minnesota National Guard — Team of the Week Mar 6-11
Playoff basketball is in full swing. It’s win or go home from here on out.
Here are this week’s options for Team of the Week:
Lake City
The Tigers gutted out a pair of wins last week in Section 1AA, beating a sneaky good Zumbrota-Mazeppa team 64-59 before putting together an outstanding defensive performance in a 50-38 win over St. Charles.
Mahtomedi
The Zephyrs looked dead in the water early in their Saturday showdown with Totino-Grace in the Section 4AAA semifinals. Then Parker Fox took over and led Mahtomedi to a 69-65 win over the Eagles to advance to the section final.
Richfield
Apparently Richfield just needed the regular season to end. The Spartans lost their final seven games of the regular season, going 7-18 in the regular season. They’ve taken advantage of new life, beating St. Paul Harding 78-61 in the first round of the Section 3AAA tournament before pulling the 63-59 upset over St. Paul Highland Park to advance to the section final game.
Holy Family Catholic
Holy Family could’ve been one and done in the section tournament, landing the No. 8 seed in a 16-team Section 5AA. The Fire made quick work of Rockford in the 8/9 game, winning 86-69. Then the Fire went out and pulled the upset over top-seeded Brooklyn Center, edging the Centaurs 64-58.
Cretin-Derham Hall
The Crusaders earned the No. 4 seed in the loaded Section 4AAAA and showed how good they are with a dominant 78-51 win over the defending section champion North St. Paul Wednesday. CDH went out and beat East Ridge — a team it lost to by 37 at the end of January — in overtime Saturday.
