North Dakota Playoff Central: Class A State by the numbers
Those expecting upsets in the first round of the Class A State Tournament went home disappointed. It was a day that the standouts stepped forward and performed in the way they were expected to.
The games have been reported on across the state, but here are the numbers that caught our attention.
Fargo Davies 58 Bismarck 56. Fargo Davies was 1-9 from the arc…Davies won the rebounding battle by one….Davies blocked seven shots, Bismarck blocked zero…Bismarck made 8 of 20 threes to stay on the heels of Davies…Jake Paper was held to a dozen points (6-11fg) but dominated the glass with 14 boards….Will Madler scored just once for the Demons but did grab ten boards…Matt Veit had a Davies high 15 points, Bismarck was led by the 14 from Solomon Garter…
Minot 74 West Fargo 64. The most eye-popping number is Alex Schimke knocking out four treys and scoring 22 points for Minot. He also made all eight foul shots…Justin Engg had a terrible day shooting 2 of 12 but grabbed eight boards and made all six of his foul shots…Peyton Lamoureux scored 15 points and it was all on three-pointers made…KyJuan Johnson totaled 17 points, eight boards, five assists, and three steals…Joe Pistorius scored 16 points with have his makes coming at the arc for West Fargo…
Bismarck Century 80 Fargo Shanley 49. A tough game for Shanley but Jake Reinholz once again stood out with 19 points led by his 7 of 10 foul shooting….Century was up 44-16 at the halftime break…Shanley was 1 of 16 at the arc where as Century hit 40 percent of their 25 treys (10)…Century controlled the glass 44-30…The Patriots had 13 different players score led by the 19 points from Kade Lynch followed by the 13 points from Josh Sipes and Treyton Mattern…
Dickinson 83 WF Sheyenne 68. More than half of the Sheyenne attempts came at the arc. They took 30 threes out of their 56 shots total…Dickinson took a dozen less treys but made eight….Aanen Moody had a bad night shooting (4 of 12) but made 16 of 17 foul shots for his 25 points…Jordan Meidinger had a tough night at the foul line (1 of 7) but blocked six shots (when you can’t get shots off at the rim, you shoot from the perimeter) and grabbed a dozen board…Chase Ballard had a dozen and Eli Jung 13 for the Midgets who had a balanced scoring effort…Josh Thiele knocked out four treys and scored 15 for Sheyenne…
Today the semi-finals match Century vs Dickinson and the monster #1 vs #2 battle of Fargo Davies and Minot.
