South Dakota Playoff Central: March 3
The Sweet 16 is set! After a massive upset and a big Thursday night of games the field is in place. Tonight Class AA will see half of their state field quality. Check PHD’s Playoff Central!
The Big Stage. Mitchell. Three Class B title games will be decided this evening in Mitchell. Undefeated Bridgewater-Emery plays Canistota for the District 8 title at 5pm. Also in Mitchell at the Corn Palace at 6:30 is the District 12 championship between Colome and Gregory followed at 8 by the District 11 championship between Corsica-Stickney and Platte-Geddes.
At Brandon Valley. Either Brandon Valley, after their fantastic season, or Sioux Falls Washington will be watching the state tournament from the stands. This year. Both could possibly do so but one will officially be out this evening.
Class AA has eight games being played tonight, four games for the right for state (O’Gorman/Brookings, Harrisburg/Lincoln, Huron/Pierre, Stevens/Douglas) while four other games are for their playoff lives (Mitchell/Central, Washington/B Valley, Central/Douglas, Roosevelt/Watertown).
Headed to Regions! Who in Class B won their District and qualified for Regions? Florence-Henry, Langford Area (knocking out Warner), and Wolsey-Wessington are the first three.
Upset City!. That would be Dakota Valley knocking off Vermillion. Dakota Valley has not had the year this season that they did a year ago but they’ve always been a threat. Robert Rosenquist had 23 points and seven boards and made several foul shots down the stretch. Vermillion had a chance to win but A.J. Plitzuweit missed a buzzer beater giving Dakota Valley a spot in the sweet 16.
Thursday Thoughts. Thought Groton would give Roncalli a bit better game than that…Aaron Fiegen steps up a bit more and more for Madison with every week that goes by…SF Christian over Dell Rapids by 17 and we should of seen that coming in basked on their last game…Tri-Valley just keeps winning…Most the games went as expected save that one upset….
Hat Tip to the Career. Tonight’s hat tip goes to Cooper Williams of Vermillion. A hard working, high character young man who represented his program and team in a good way. Also cordial and respectful during interviews as well as a great leader for his community, Cooper had a really nice career for this program. Cooper will be great for DWU.
