Contenders
Union
The twin towers inside, Ethan Chargois and Adrian Rodriguez have dominated class 6A leading Union to a 23-0 record with several impressive wins over top five opponents.
Edmond North
The Huskies have a couple of head scratching performances as of late, but their record speaks for itself. Marques Wilson, Marvin Johnson and Harrison Stoddart lead a star studded team. The Huskies are hoping to finish off the season with a ring.
Midwest City
The Bombers look to be firing on all cylinders heading into the playoffs. Keyshawn Embery is making a statement this year with his play on the floor that he is one of the best players in the state.
Norman North
Anytime you have Trae Young on your team you have a chance to win the Gold Ball. What Young has done this season has been incredible.
On the Cusp
Putnam City North
I don’t see the Panthers being a contender for the Gold Ball this year, but State should be within reach for Putnam City North. Putnam City North has a great duo of Adokiye Iyaye and Micah Thomas at the guard spots. Putnam City North is one year away from being a true contender for the Gold Ball.
Westmoore
The Jags are a young and talented group, but they need another year before we give them legit contender status for the Gold Ball. Westmoore is led by Will Graham a talented 2018 Point Guard with great upside.
Muskogee
The Roughers are not a true contender for the Class 6A Gold ball, but are contenders to get into the state tournament. Don’t be surprised if Coach Josh Berry’s squad makes a run. Tyreese Berry and Brooks Haddock lead the way for the Roughers.
Broken Arrow
The Tigers have some key pieces in Caleb Huffman, Tony Hall and Camyrn Dennis. Huffman and Dennis return to give the Tigers a stout squad for next year. Not a contender this year, but could very well end up a state tournament team.
Pretenders
Booker T. Washington
Despite, four players with Division I offers on their team the Hornets have plummeted in Class 6A. It has been hard to watch at times as the Hornets have been blown out by 32 against Midwest City and 40 points at home to Memorial. RJ Fuqua, Jaycson Bereal, Bryce Thompson and Seth Hurd is a very talented group. But it doesn’t look like they are gelling together this year, maybe next year.
Yukon
The Millers have had a solid season, but in big games against top ten opponents Yukon has struggled to say the least. The two elite teams Yukon played Edmond North and Norman North beat them by 20+. Cameron Martin will have to carry this team on his back to the Class 6A State Tournament, which is possible with his skill set. But Yukon is not a true contender for the Class 6A Gold Ball.
Sapulpa
The Chieftains are so young with Julian Smith and Trey Phipps leading the way at the guard spots. Ultimately, youth is what makes Sapulpa not ready this year to be a true contender.
Edmond Santa Fe
The Wolves have had their share of impressive wins early on, but since then have really struggled at times. It seems they can not find an identity. Edmond Santa Fe has young talent, but it looks like they will have to wait another year for the state tournament.
Dark Horses
Owasso
The Rams always seem to be in contention to make the state tournament. Look for Owasso behind Josh Procter to make some noise in the playoffs.
Putnam City West
After winning the state championship a year ago things look bleak for Putnam City North, but don’t count them out yet. Don’t be surprised when Putnam City West makes a run to the state tournament.
Norman
The Tigers behind Jacob Ogle have had a great season under first year head coach Rodney Dindy. Look for them to make some noise in the playoffs.
