Morgan Park 53- Curie 46
Morgan Park was able to come back to defeat Curie 53-46. Curie led most of the way as their zone defense was causing problems for Morgan Park until Junior guard Ayo Dosunmu started to assert himself offensively in the second half to help Morgan Park to the comeback win
MVP: Ayo Dosunmu- Morgan Park- (2018)
The Morgan Park standout struggled early on in the game. Curie did a good job packing the lane and stopping Morgan Park from getting out and running. Dosunmu came alive in the second half. He was effective attacking the lane and finishing at the rim. He was getting to the line, and hit a big three in the 4th. Dosunmu also did a good job handing the ball at the point position and made good decisions to set up his teammates. He finished with 15 points to lead all scorers in the game.
Offensive Performance: Terry Smith Jr. – Curie (2017)
Terry Smith Jr. got off to a hot start for Curie knocking down a couple nice mid-range jumpers. He provided most of the offensive punch early to help Curie get out to a first half lead. He is an undersized post but can step out and knock down jumpers as well as use his strength to score down low. Smith finished with 13 points including a big dunk in transition for Curie.
Defensive Performance: Lamond Johnson- Morgan Park (2019)
The strong 6’2 sophomore was tasked with the challenge of guarding Tulsa commit Elijah Joiner of Curie. He did a good job limiting Joiner on the offensive end. He does a good job moving his feet and has long arms that he uses to help him out in the passing lanes. Defense is his strength right now but he has shown the ability to score around the rim.
Best 6th Man of the Game: Nimari Burnett- Morgan Park (2020)
Nimari Burnett only a freshman stepped up big for Morgan Park in this semifinal game at Chicago State. One of the top freshman in the state. He came alive in the 4th quarter off the bench. He would knock down three big threes’ the second of which gave Morgan Park the lead 40-39 and they wouldn’t trail following that big shot He also provide a major spark on defense and offensive. Nimari will certainly be a prospect to track as he continues to develop.
Best Under the Radar Performance: Trevon Hamilton – Curie (2019)
The 5’10 sophomore is a sharp shooter with really good shooting mechanics. He provided some scoring punch for Curie hitting two big threes’ and would have had another if it wasn’t for a offensive foul call. Hamilton finished with 8 points off the bench.
