MVP: Vincent Cole (2017)– Had a big first quarter finishing with 11 points on 3 three-pointers and led all scorers at halftime with 13 points. Kept the scoring going in the second half and finished the game with 28 points. The College of Charleston recruit has a knack for scoring the basketball and has the length to be a problem in the Colonial Athletic Conference next season.
Co-Offensive MVP: Matt Halvorsen (2017)– The Western Carolina University recruit poured in 21 points for Christ School on the night. He made four 3-pointers and is deadly once he gets his feet set. Halvorsen is one of the best shooters in the state bar none.
Co-Offensive MVP: Tracus Chisholm (2017)– The big-time scoring guard caught fire in the 3rd and scorched the nets with 14 in the quarter to put York Prep up 56-45 on Christ School late in the 3rd quarter. He would finish the night with 3 points in front of Mars Hill College coaches’ who left impressed.
Best Shooter: Tracus Chisholm, Vincent Cole and Matt Halvorsen– All three put on a shooting clinic tonight for spectators. Great form from all three, the basket just seemed bigger for these shooters tonight.
Best Freshman: Justice Ajogbor (2020)– The freshman has improved rapidly since I first saw him at open gym over the summer. He is 6-foot-9 and the speed of the game is starting to flow better for him, he is gaining confidence in his footwork and can rebound with the best. Had two big-time dunks tonight that left the rim shaking. Will be one to watch over the next three seasons and will only continue to get better.
Best Sophomore: DJ Burns (2019)– The sophomore big man showed a great touch out to 15-feet, showed a smoothness to his game with his touch and passing ability for a 6-foot-9 big man. He got a lot of rebounds and blocked some shots in front of Clemson assistant coach Dick Bender.
Best Passer: Monta Houston- Cat-quick guard, nice pull-up jumper, hard to stay in front of & makes hard passes look easy.
Best College Prospect: At this point, Vincent Cole shows the best amount of ability that will translate over to the next level. Long and athletic and understands the game. Has a cockiness to his game that can not be taught and doesn’t back down from anyone.
Best Defender: Justice Ajogbor (2020)– Ajogbor did a great job of rebounding the basketball and stopping DJ Burns from getting easy shots around the rim. The young player showed promise going forward over the next three season and why he will be on every college radar in the coming months.
Story to Watch: Will Fleming (2017)– Plays hard every night for Christ School. Wake baseball is getting a pure athlete. Knocked down some big shots last night. It will be interesting to see if Danny Manning allows Fleming to maybe walk-on at Wake Forest next season. He would be a great practice player with his height and skill level. Shot the ball extremely well and gives 110% every time I see him.
