Continue ReadingAvon led throughout the game until the final quarter. Plainfield’s Gavin Bizeau hit a turnaround jumper to put Plainfield ahead by two, 61-59 with 1.5 seconds left in the game. Avon couldn’t get a heave off in time and the Bizeau jumper won it.
Avon led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter early before Plainfield chipped away at the lead to tie it and eventually take the game by a two point margin. Plainfield outscored Avon 21-10 over the final seven minutes of the game.
No one really stood out in this one as everyone played about the same, besides Bizeau. He was head and shoulders above the rest and takes the crown as easily the MVP and offensive player of the game.
Leading scorers: Avon: Andrew Short 13, Evan Lowden 12, Hayden Crowder 10, Zach Rinehart 10. Plainfield: Gavin Bizeau 21, Jarrett Hufferd 13, Trey Davis 13.
Leading rebounders: Avon: Evan Lowden 11, Hayden Crowder 5. Plainfield: Gavin Bizeau 11, Tyler West 5.
MVP: Gavin Bizeau (Plainfield)
Bizeau almost had a double-double through three quarters but needed a rebound in the fourth to do so. He scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds in the game and made the game winner. Bizeau played solidly showing the ability to make his way to the basket and make midrange jumpers. He battled all night long and played the entire game. It was a great showing for Bizeau in a game that Plainfield needed him to be good.
Best offensive performance: Gavin Bizeau (Plainfield)
I hate doubling up “awards”, but Bizeau was literally head and shoulders above the competition. Bizeau was 9/18 from the field and 3/3 from the line. He showed a ton of different moves in his arsenal and he capped it off with a step back fadeaway late in the game. That’s something that you can’t defend on a 6’10 high school player.
Best defensive performance: Andrew Short (Avon)
Short is the lead guard for Avon and he started off the game like he was going to drop 25 hitting three in a row from deep but he came back to earth and as usual he played really well on defense. He did let his man go a little bit but he still had four steals and even added in a block. Short’s stock is all mainly on defense and he is very good at that this year.
Best under-the-radar performance: Jarrett Hufferd (Plainfield)
Hufferd had the game that I didn’t expect tonight. To come off the bench and score 13 points while being 5’9 is very impressive. He was 3/4 from the line and made two critical threes. Hufferd was solid for Plainfield playing some important minutes down the stretch of the game tonight.
