MVP: Austin Gilyard- His stat line of 24 points is impressive but what trumps that is his 18-19 shooting from the charity stripe in a hotly-contested game between two rival schools.
Offensive MVP: Austin Gilyard- Gilyard got imto the lane as much as he could forcing West Forsyth to either foul and send him to the free-throw line or allow him to score. He was easily the impact player offensively with using that ability to secure the win for Mt. Tabor.
Numbers Game: A total of five technical fouls were called in this game. Three on West Forsyth and two on Mt. Tabor.
Big Play of 3rd Quarter: Austin Gilyard got to the line after being fouled by Marcus Caldwell to push the lead 46-31 with 5:08 left in the third quarter. West Forsyth would rally but it would be too much to overcome.
Best Shooter: Cooper LaRue- The son of West Forsyth HS head coach Rusty LaRue made some clutch shots throughout the game and finished with 13 points.
Best Storyline Moving Forward: This was the first meeting between the two teams in conference play and was quite a heated contest. The next one is at West Forsyth and will be another furious battle. The two teams meet again on Jan. 31.
Big play of 4th Quarter: West Forsyth stole the ball but the ball bounced off Cooper LaRue’s foot and out of bounds with 1:33 left. On the next inbounds play, Gilyard was fouled by Cooper LaRue after catching the pass, and he made both free throws to give Mt. Tabor the lead to 64-60 with 1:09 left.
Best Underclassman: KJ Henry: The highly regarded football prospect is also quite the basketball player. At 6-foot-5 and very athletic, Henry is able to score from the post and the perimeter. He scored 14 points for The Titans.
Best Quote: Andy Muse- The Head Coach for Mt. Tabor had this say about last night’s game, “Spartan Gym had another Special night last night. Our guys played with energy and played with a since of urgency. It was a very physical game – like most West Forsyth / Mt. Tabor games are played. Austin Gilyard and Isaiah Wilkins combined for 41 points. Cameron Robinson and Charles Terry played relentless defense on West two best players and had them shooting out of rhythm. Our team played as well as we played all year . West Forsyth is a very good team and they can go deep in the playoffs.”
Best Under the Radar Performer: Isaiah Wilkins- The 2018 guard scored 17 points and was a pest on defense. He grabs the tough rebounds, always makes the right pass and can score the basketball. One for colleges to take a look at.
