This year, the group of competitors is quite eye catching. There are a number of participants at this event who will have the opportunity to play post-high school basketball.
Here is a link to the bracket: http://chargerhoops.com/holiday/bracket.html
First Eight
Teams:
Mesquite vs. Chandler, Boulder Creek vs. Mesa, Desert Mountain vs. Mountain Pointe, Campo Verde vs. Shadow Mountain:
The top half of the bracket features last years Division II state champion and the top ranked team in the entire state in Shadow Mountain. In addition to Shadow Mountain, there is plenty of other talent to watch for as well. Mesquite High School is quite improved and could make a run in this bracket if they can get by their tough first round matchup of Chandler. Chandler has one of the top prospects in the state in Tevian Jones. Moreover, Mesa, last year’s Division I state champion is also in this field.
Prediction:
Shadow Mountain will remain unscathed and make it to the championship our of this side of the bracket. Guards Jaelen House, Jovan Blacksher, and Marcus Shavier will lead the way and be too difficult for any team to guard.
Players to Watch:
Shadow Mountain: Jaelen House, Jovan Blacksher, Marcus Shavier, Jordan Pace, Tyler Jafery, and Darion Spottsville
Mesquite: Jaden Lee, Xavier Dussell, and David Exline
Chandler: Tevian Jones and Brandon Thompson
Campo Verde: Jacob Hunt and Matt Hill
Boulder Creek: Mitchell Warner and Ryan Serrano
Mesa: Mark Hatch and DJ Henderson
Desert Mountain: Brandon Kron and Brady Giordano
Mountain Pointe: Malik Salahuddin, Logan Matulis, and Khalid Price
Bottom Eight:
Teams:
Marcos De Niza vs. Hamilton, Dobson vs. McClintock, Arcadia vs. Gilbert, and Tempe vs. Brophy
Although the top half of the bracket might have the returning state champions, the bottom half of the bracket is no joke. One of the most intriguing match-ups of the whole tournament happens in the first round as Arcadia takes on Gilbert. This should be a great game; in addition, keep an eye on Hamilton and Marcos De Niza as both teams enter the tournament playing basketball at an extremely high level.
Prediction:
Even though this side of the bracket is loaded with teams who could potentially win out, the early favorite appears to be Brophy. In order to do so, they will have to get by the winner of the Gilbert and Arcadia game in the next round. This will be a tall task as both teams are playing well and will undoubtedly come into the game with an upset minded approach.
Players to Watch:
Marcos De Niza: Mason Stark, Zurell Livingston, and DaShawn Ray
Hamilton: Rashad Smith and Tyson Brown
McClintock: Josh Baker, Jamal Johnson, Adam Wright, and Armani Williams Armani Williams 6'1" | SG McClintock | 2020 State AZ
Arcadia: Max Moses, Aiden Weber, and Jaylin Fleming
Gilbert: Trajon Hawkins, Noah Self, and CJ Waters
Tempe: Naseem Vigil and Nate Manley
Brophy: Jaxon Baker, Ian Burke, and Matthew Kempton
Championship Prediction:
Shadow Mountain wins a hard fought battle over Brophy.
