Continue ReadingThrough four games this season Centerville small forward Brett Kauzlarich is off to a sizzling start.
The 6-foot-3 senior is averaging 27.3 points on 55 percent shooting and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Still, his basketball recruitment has been stagnant.
“No other schools have talked to me since the summer (Central, Nebraska Wesleyan),” said Kauzlarich. “I’ve talked to Central just a little bit more, and I talked to Nebraska Wesleyan over the summer, but I haven’t talked to them yet since.”
With his entire senior season ahead of him to showcase a versatile skill-set to college coaches, Kauzlarich hopes he can pick up some additional interest.
“After about our fifth or sixth game I’ll have a highlight tape, and I’ll send it out to schools that I feel I’m capable of playing at. And then hopefully I’ll be fortunate enough to go play basketball next year somewhere,” said Kauzlarich.
If his hoops recruitment remains stagnant then he says he’ll look to pursue baseball in college.
Kauzlarich sported a 1.84 ERA and batted .394 for the Big Reds baseball team last summer as a junior.
“If I don’t feel like I get a very good opportunity, then I’ll probably try and go pitch and play baseball somewhere, if I have a better opportunity with that,” said Kauzlarich, who mentioned he prefers basketball.
“I’d like to try and purse basketball if that’s the best opportunity though.”
His role with Centerville this senior is not much different than the past couple of years, and that’s to be the team’s main offensive threat.
As a sophomore he averaged 15.9 points per game, and last winter he netted 17.s per game.
“What’s different about my senior year is you know everyone is looking up to you in practice, and I just need to teach guys certain things and help them understand and just be a practice leader,” said Kauzlarich.
“I feel like for us to be really competitive and win a lot of games and have a chance to go to state is most important to me. If that happened, I’ll consider it a pretty great senior season.”
