The Favorite
Aanen Moody of Dickinson. The Midgets open this Friday at Turtle Mountain in what could be one of Moody’s biggest scoring games of the year.
Top Contenders
Wyatt Carr of Hazen. Carr and his team will be tested instantly when they welcome Bishop Ryan to Hazen for the team opener. Carr wants to lead his team to a big year and faces a balanced team in game one.
Siman Sem of Fargo North. Sem and the Spartans were to open last night but the game was postponed because of weather. They play WF Sheyenne this Friday.
KyJuan Johnson of Minot. The Magicians seasons got off to a great start when they beat GFRR by 14. The biggest take from the game was how well Minot moved the ball and the guy who started that was Johnson. KyJuan scored 16 points and neared double figure assists.
Tronis McKay of Four Winds-Minnewaukan. Fort Totten will be the place to be on Saturday when the Indians face Grafton/St. Thomas in the opener and you can expect some big numbers from Tronis and Steve Red Fox who we should also add to the list in coming weeks.
Potential Contenders
Jordan Meidinger of Dickinson. The NDSU commit plays his first game this Friday and you can expect him to collect a load of boards at Turtle Mountain.
Jacob Mertens of Devils Lake. Mertens scored 25 for his team in a loss to West Fargo. Jacob will always produce the all around numbers but the frustrating part for his team was that they lost another big game. Numbers are great but Mertens wants wins and wins is how he will make a run for this award.
Austin Slaughter of GFRR. The Roughriders dropped their first game of the season at Minot but Slaughter was the best scorer in the game with 24 points and often carrier GFRR on possessions. If the year continues to go like this Austin will have some big numbers.
Jayden Komrosky of North Star. Jayden’s team opens this Friday at Harvey/Wells County.
Justin Engg of Minot. Engg scored 18 in his first game of the season including a pair of open floor scores in the middle of the second half and a big three to ice the game late. Engg led his team with 18 points against GFRR in a balance effort for a win.
A Name to Know
Raiden Forrest (West Fargo). The wonder has been how the Packers would replace some key players from last year and 6-foot-2 Raiden Forrest put everybody on notice when he scored 30 points in West Fargo win over Devils Lake.
