Game of the night: 3A No. 4 Glenwood at Council Bluffs, Lewis Central
An early season matchup between a pair of 2-0 teams, this is a key game in the Hawkeye 10 race. Glenwood has been paced by the sensational guard tandem of Nate Mohr and Andrew Blum, who are combining to score 40.5 points a game early on. The Rams will have their hands full with Lewis Central big man Kyle Arrington, a 6-10 mountain of a young man who controls the paint for the Titans. The guard matchup here between Mohr/Blum and Chad Moran/Will King will be fun to watch.

TUESDAY (Dec. 6)
Game of the night: 2A No. 3 Western Christian at LeMars
Another key early conference game, this one in the Lakes Conference, where defending 2A champion Western Christian will look to slow down a high-powered LeMars attack paced by Trenton Hilbrands. Wolfpack guards Tyson Kooima and Ben Gesink were fantastic in their opening win over Sioux Center, and they’ll have to be great again against a Bulldogs team that will likely try to push the pace after struggling to do so against a bigger Western Christian group last season. If Western Christian is able to get this road win, they’ll have to be considered a heavy favorite to win the Lakes yet again.

THURSDAY (Dec. 8)
Game of the night: Greene County at Southeast Valley
An intriguing non-conference game between a pair of teams that have some potent scorers on them. Greene County is averaging nearly 73 points a game behind scoring guard Trey Tucker, who is averaging over 25 a night. Southeast Valley has an edge in the paint with Dakota Jaeschke. If Greene County can push the tempo here, they should win. If Southeast Valley can slow the game down like North Polk did on Saturday night, they’ll have a chance.

FRIDAY (Dec. 9)
Game of the night: 3A No. 2 Pella at 2A No. 2 Pella Christian
The first of two meetings this season, this is probably the best chance Pella Christian has had to pick up a win in the series since January 29, 2013, when they beat the Dutch 59-45. Pella is back to their high-scoring ways, averaging 83.5 points a game in the opening week. Ryan Van Wyk (27.0 points, 11.5 rebounds) has been incredible for Pella, and the Eagles will need to try to limit him if they want to get a key Little Hawkeye win over their rival. Having David Kacmarynski (27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds) back after sitting out last season with a torn ACL should help out quite a bit, and we’ll see how well Levi Jungling and his backcourt mates handle the Dutch pressure. Expect to see plenty of points here.

SATURDAY (Dec. 10)
Game of the night: Sergeant Bluff-Luton at LeMars
A big week of games continues for LeMars, hosting a very good Sergeant Bluff-Luton team. The Warriors have a potent attack with lots of returning experience from last year’s group that beat LeMars at home, 68-63. This should be an entertaining non-conference tilt between a pair of teams that are just outside the top 10 in Class 3A currently. Chris Kroll and Connor Groves taking on Hilbrands, Will Pottebaum and crew should be a fun one.
