The 6-foot-2 shooting guard heads into his senior year hoping to help lead the Eagles on an extended postseason run and despite not playing last year, he’s planning on taking on a leadership role.
“I’m trying to lead the team,” said Modi. “Going to try to get my team to win as much as possible. We have a lot of new players so I’m going to try to be a leader.”
Modi averaged double figures playing grassroots in the spring and summer with Twin Cities Finest, showing off his ability to knock down shots from deep as well as his propensity for handling the ball and creating in pick and roll situations.
“It was a first year team but it was a great experience,” said Modi. “I got to play with some great players and we did pretty well I thought.”
Modi might’ve missed a lot of time and opportunity when it comes to college exposure but there are still schools that have taken notice of his talents. Modi’s been in contact with Upper Iowa and the University of Jamestown to name a couple of schools.
“I visited Upper Iowa and met with the coaches,” said Modi. “I really liked the campus there. I played in a camp over there as well and it was great.”
The Eagles have a good set of big guys heading into the season. If guys like Modi can step up on the perimeter, Apollo should be very good this season. If that happens, Modi benefits as well with some more college interest.
