Below is part one of our breakdown of the most under recruited players in the class, at a number of different levels. Stay tuned for more content, including additional position-by-position break-downs, biggest stock boosters, and more.
James Sullivan | 6’3” WG | Spotswood (#47 Overall)
Sullivan played on one of the best non circuit AAU teams in the country the past few seasons in Big Shots Elite, a team that won over 80 games in the past two summers. A two guard to the definition, the Harrisonburg wing is a knock down shooter from deep, can score in the half court in the midrange and doesn’t need much space to get his shot off. He’s a team oriented player that plays hard on both ends, and now that he’s joining a Spotswood team with a winning tradition he should have a chance to show what he can do come March. He has interest from a number of D2 and D3 schools.
Miles Gibson | 6’5” PF/WF | Millwood (#58 Overall)
Say what you want about what position he’ll play at the next level, he’s been productive as both a wing and a big man the last two seasons at Millwood. Gibson can shoot the deep ball, handle the rock in transition, has a high motor on the glass on both ends and his skill set is good for a team moving in the “positionless” direction of long and athletic players that can shoot, dribble and pass. He currently has interest from a number of schools at all three levels, and his high academics and production level bold well for his recruitment his senior year.
Kiran Durant | 6’2” WG | Grafton (#62 Overall)
Durant is a pure scoring guard that can fill it up in a number of different ways. The smooth lefty can shoot it off the catch or off the bounce, is a tough finisher in the lane and he can create his shot in isolation situations. He joined Team Loaded 757 red in July, and was huge for them as he hit game winners and was a go-to threat when they won Session One of the Big Shots Myrtle Beach live period. Last year he dealt with some minor knee injuries, but this season he should be one of the top scorers in the 757 area as he’ll have the green light for Grafton from day one.
Kelvin Nicholson | 6’8” PF | Cox (#66 Overall)
A late bloomer, Nicholson has come on lately and should be one of the most productive big men in the 757 this season. He’s a long rim protector that alters shots defensively, can finish with both hands in the paint and he’s a good enough athlete to finish above the rim in the paint. A two sport star that also excels in volleyball, Nicholson has received a lot of interest from D2 schools and a number of high level D3 schools. If he can continue to get in shape and plays with a high motor this season, he should have a chance to get a scholarship for one or both of those sports.
Tyree Golston | 6’0” PG | Tallwood (#77 Overall)
Golston has been one of the most underrated scoring guards in the state the past few seasons, and this summer he showed that well enough to pick up a division two offer from St. Thomas Aquinas (NY). He has good size at the point, gets in the lane at will, scores it at all three levels yet he still has the vision to keep everyone involved when defenses start to focus on him. He has a number of schools at each level looking at him, and he’ll likely put up big numbers for an underrated Tallwood team that could surprise some teams this season.
