Both High School and Middle School gyms were hosting games throughout the day. Our staff focused on the varsity games played in the High School Gym. A special thank you to Coach Campbell and his Bourbon County coaching staff for putting this event together! We’ve split our recap into four sections: Recap Pt. 1 & Recap Pt. 2, and Top Performers: Guards & Top Performers Pt. 2.
Top Performers ~ Wings & Forwards
Bless Kamuena Bless Kamuena 6'5" | SF Bryan Station | 2022 State KY – Bryan Station
Kamuena jumps out and puts a lot of stress on the court. He is becoming a confident shooter on the catch or off the bounce. His length allows him to be more efficient with his drives and the vision to finish in traffic. He played everywhere in the Defender’s press defense and guards the ball extremely well. Kamuena is a top 60 player in the class of 2022.
Jaden Biggers Jaden Biggers 6'6" | PF Bryan Station | 2023 State KY – Bryan Station
Biggers is an impressive, physical-minded athlete that is developing his game for the next level. He has strong, sure hands that doesn’t lose out on many rebounds. The Defenders will rotate players around on their press defense but Biggers routinely played at the top line. The 11th region is loaded with skilled wings, forwards, and centers. Expect Biggers to be in the mix for the All-City team.
John Mccrear John Mccrear 6'8" | PF Woodfard | 2023 State #219 Nation KY – Woodford County
McCrear is a gifted athlete that is fine-tuning his skill set. He has a silky smooth jump shot that can expand out to 25+ feet. He does a great job preparing his body position to locate the ball on defense and be in the right place to alter shots. The Yellow Jackets will need McCrear to be more aggressive than what we saw on Saturday. Considering it was the first round of scrimmages, we expect him to be one of the top players in the 8th region and the state.
Aydan Hamilton Aydan Hamilton 6'5" | SG Campbell County | 2023 State KY – Campbell County
Hamilton already has his college plans decided as he was an early commitment to the University of Kentucky Baseball program. He is a gifted athlete that plays with determination and purpose on the court. He has a great compliment of teammates that allow him to find open space to shoot and drive.
Caleb Brooks Caleb Brooks 6'9" | C Cooper | 2023 State KY – Cooper
Brooks is a top 40 player in the 2023 class. His height and length give him a clear advantage in every possession. We were impressed with his motor and his touch around the rim. He has developed a handful of low post moves that will force pressure on the defense. He did a great job of altering shots, collecting rebounds, and getting quick outlets to ignite the offense. Brooks showed a confident jump shot that has made significant progress since last season.
Honorable Mentions
Abe Nelson – Lafayette
Eric Davie – Campbell County
Trenton Wilson Trenton Wilson 6'2" | SG Rockcastle | 2024 State KY – Berea
