Tatum is a smaller guard, but has been putting up big performances trying to get his Rolesville team some wins. He is ultra aggressive and loves to attack the paint, and is not afraid of contact at all. His FG numbers aren’t great but he makes up for it the way he is able to get to the free throw line and knock shots down at the charity stripe. He also likes to sink in and ignite the fast break by getting defense rebounds, helping his big men out. He is a dynamo that will lead this team to many wins this season.

Kyler Harris is one name to watch as a strong two way guard in the senior class, and he had some big games last week. He led his team to a tight win over West Cabarrus where he scored 32 of his teams 62, scoring the ball well and getting to the stripe. He’s not a knockdown shooter, but uses his frame to his advantage to either score or get an opportunity to knock down free throws. He also follows his shot and get his nose in for offensive rebounds, making sure possessions are not one and done. He’s the engine that makes this Porter Ridge team go, and based on their success when he plays well, he should be playing college ball next year.
Portis has been a dominating force down low this year, using his size to dominate the glass and opposing paint defenders. He’s averaging an absurd double double of 17 points and 13 rebounds a game, including a big night against Falls Lake where he was the best player on the floor. He is a physical post player that overpowers guys for rebounds, and uses it to his advantage. His post skill is still improving, but he still is able to score against similarly sized forwards. Look for more gaudy numbers from him.
Burnett has been on my radar since the beginning of the year, and he continues to show his quality of performance against top opponents. Last weeks performance against Gaston Christian was one example. He was efficient from the field, going 12/16 and also knocking down a three pointer. He can score inside, but his progression to being willing to shoot jumpers is a positive sign. He’s also a willing passer that involves his teammates even when he’s getting hot. He makes the winning play at every moment, even if that means he isn’t scoring. I can’t wait to see him have more big performances on the big stage.
Scott is a big time player, one headed for a big career at CofC. His scoring is solid, using his frame and post moves to be able to put opposing bigs in jail, but his physicality is what is most impressive. He grabbed 18 rebounds in a game last week, and it’s just amazing the kind of physicality and intensity he brings. As he tries to score, that physicality also gets him to the free throw line and he gets extra chances at adding points to the board. He will fit in well as a big in the Cougars system, and look for some more big performances before he’s finished with school.
