Markel Webb
Markel Webb
I wasn’t familiar with Markel heading into Thursday night, but came away impressed as he was the best player on the floor throughout the game. He has the look of a do-it-all wing with solid height, a strong frame, and versatile skillset. On his way to 29 points, Markel showed he can stretch the floor and knock down threes off the catch, finish through contact, and compete on the glass for put-back opportunities. He spent some time handling the ball for his team and looked calm under pressure. Anytime he made a shot, there was zero hesitation or time for celebration as he was immediately getting to his spot in Dominican’s full-court press. Added in 10 boards to help his team come away with a win.
The potential for Will Garlock Will Garlock 6’11” | C Middleton | 2025 State #204 Nation WI is sky high. The 6’10 sophomore moves very well at his size, and showed some promising low-post skills. Garlock had finishes with both hands throughout the game, and also showed he can get off the floor quickly as he threw down a baseline dunk. Outside of his scoring he really impressed with a couple of the passes he made. Garlock dished out an assist to a cutter with his back to the basket, and also flashed up to the top of the key and delivered a high-low pass to his teammate as soon as the seal was made. Defensively he did a nice job of walling up and making things difficult for his man under the basket. Finished with 14 points in a win over Madison Memorial.
Demitrius Taylor
Demitrius Taylor
There have already been a number of 2026 prospects making an immediate impact at the varsity level, and you can add Demitrius’ name to that list. He came off the bench and immediately made his presence felt. One sequence saw him go coast-to-coast for a tough finish, come back down and grab a defensive board, and then immediately dart up the floor for an and-one finish. As just a freshman he already has the quickness to blow by defenders up the floor, with the body control to score through contact against taller players. Really like how he keeps his eyes scanning the floor when attacking to keep his options open. Taylor also took a large late in the second half as Milwaukee Lutheran was starting to make a run, helping stop the momentum. Finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in a win.
Anthony Miller
Anthony Miller
Speaking of freshmen, Anthony Miller had a huge second half last night to help his team nearly comeback against Middleton. His pull-up jumper was excellent, as Anthony was able to get to his spots off one or two dribbles and elevate with a rhythm and confidence primarily seen only in upperclassmen. Knocked down four 3’s on the night and finished with a game high 20 points. If he’s already this trusted as a freshman playing for a D1 school, it will be exciting to watch his development over the next few years.
Devin is not only one of the most exciting players to watch in the whole state, but he’s also turned into one of the most productive. After going down with an injury just a couple minutes into the game, Devin came back in a few minutes later and immediately made an impact. Took the ball to the hoop for two finishes, and just moments later caught the ball on the wing, drove down the lane, and elevated through traffic for an emphatic two-hand slam. He didn’t quite look 100% throughout the game, but was still making plays driving to the basket, drawing fouls, and even creating space for a couple of jumpers. Very intriguing prospect whose best basketball lies ahead.
Gavyn wasn’t taking a lot of shots last night, but he was making a good majority of the ones he did take on his way to a team high 17 points. It’s rare to see someone 6’5-6’6 run the offense for their team, but that’s what Gavyn does as he’s calm under pressure, and is a very unselfish player. Hit a baseline jumper off a BLOB play, pulled up for a deep three, threw down two transition dunks, and had a really tough off-balanced finish. Also contributed on the defensive end holding a talented group of guards/wings to limited scoring numbers over the course of the game.
Highlights
Another reason that Madison Memorial was able to make it a tight game late was the play of Sam Mickelson Sam Mickelson 6’7″ | PF Madison Memorial | 2024 State WI . The 6’7 junior has a pull-up jumper you don’t often see in players his size. Able to take one dribble into the space available and elevate like you’d see a guard do to knock down mid-range jumpers at a high clip. Showed signs of crafty footwork around the basket as well, combined with soft touch with his right hand. Was really impressed with how Sam was defending a 6’10 player on one end, yet still had the legs to hit his jumpers down the stretch to give his team a chance. Finished with 18 points.
