I checked out the teams within the area to find some of the top wings and forwards and take a look at their games more in-depth. There are plenty of players who I left out that could’ve been included, I just chose 5 of them.
Lynden Christian has a long history of winning and producing physical, intelligent players. Wright is just another example of this. The current junior is also the football teams starting quarterback and produced really well for the team with his arms and legs. On the court, he’s extremely physical. He will fight for every single rebound and win the battle more times than losing. He has great post moves, being able to score from the block with ease. His mid-range shot falls from time to time, especially if he’s open. His deep shot has been improving and that’s the one thing that will separate him from other players within his class. He’s one of the best big men in the NWC and it wouldn’t surprise me if he averaged a double-double this season.
I just mentioned Bennett the other day when I released the Burlington-Edison team preview. He’s a player in the state that I believe will be taking the next step during his senior season. His game showed a lot of growth over the off-season in many assets. His shot has improved, his handles have improved, and he continues to get more athletic every time I see him. He can jump out of the gym being able to dunk on many players, which can cause a big momentum change during the game. I expect him to be a major part of this Tigers team, leading to a lot of touches that can help him have a breakout year.
Highlights
Kayden impressed me most over the summer with his athleticism on the court. He runs the court well, filling lanes nicely and finishing at the rim effectively. As I mentioned in the Lyncs team preview I did, they did have some key starters / role players after last season so they will need players to step up. Stuit has that ability and plays alongside other big time players in Tyler Sipma Tyler Sipma 6’0″ | CG Lynden Christian | 2023 State WA and Jeremiah Wright Jeremiah Wright 6’6″ | PF Lynden Christian | 2024 State WA . This Lyncs team should have no problem contending with the core of players they have at the reigns.
Damien Toney
Damien Toney
Damien is a player who has a lot of potential but is fairly raw on the court. He is still growing, as he looked a little taller than he was last season. He plays aggressively, attacking the rim nicely from the high post with a rip and go. His frame is lengthy, giving him the ability to finish nicely at the rim. He works well off the pick and roll, especially with fellow senior guard Jewlez Terry. Toney is still growing and evolving his game so it will be interesting to see where he is at the end of the season.
Russ is just insanely athletic. There is no other way to put it. He can absolutely jump out of the gym and is likely the best dunker in the entire NWC conference. He casually puts down windmill dunks, in-game. That leads to create a lot of momentum and energy for the Borderites team. He plays very laid back, but is always involved in the game. He gets blocks easily on defense due to his athleticism as well. He hits the mid-range shot nicely and has been improving on his long range shooting as the season closes in.
