Moline features a pair of Iowa commits in Brock Harding and Owen Freeman.
Gilbraltar at Kohler
Gibraltar is coming off a somewhat surprising run to the Division 5 semifinals last season despite finishing fifth in their own conference and 19-11 overall. The Vikings lose their leading returning scorer, but feature intriguing 6-foot-7 forward Will Friedenfels, who averaged nine points and eight rebounds per game. A potential sleeper in Division 4, Kohler will rely on its 1-2 punch of junior Trey Keller Trey Keller 6'1" Kohler | 2024 WI (12.9 ppg) and Jalen Paul (12.1 ppg). A 12-13 ball club a year ago, Kohler was a relatively young group that now returns four of its top five scorers.
Gale Ettrick-Tremepeleau at Sparta
The junior campaign for Cody Schmitz Cody Schmitz 6'4" | SG Gale Ettrick-Trempeleau | 2024 State WI begins on the road. A contender to lead the state in scoring, Schmitz is coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 30 points and 10 rebounds per game. Sparta was just 4-20 in 2021-22, but reloads behind a pair of double-digit in scorers in senior Layden Bender Layden Bender 6'4" | PG Sparta | 2023 WI (15.4 ppg) and junior Thomas Laufenberg (13.2 ppg).
Auburndale at Colby
A pair of 17-win clubs from last season meet in the 2022-23 season opener. Auburndale also won 10 games in a loaded Marawood South Conference last season and returns leading scorer and senior Alex Wilfahrt (12.5 ppg). Colby was just two games out of first place in a very top heavy Cloverbelt East league, but has some question marks heading into the winter without last season’s leading scorer, rebounder, and assist man, Richard Streveler.
