Maybe the biggest story of the day, Gilbert was dominant in a victory over Youngstown Chaney, throwing down multiple dunks and showing off his impressive explosive athleticism. Gilbert has a solid body and stands at 6’6 with broad shoulders and some pop off his feet. Gilbert also blocked some shots in the paint and knocked down a 3-pointer. Gilbert has some mechanical issues with his jumper but looks to have good touch and already has the confidence to shoot it from the outside. Based on what I saw on Saturday I expect Gilbert to be a scholarship prospect and valued by Division II and NAIA programs around the region. Grove City also had solid guard play from a couple upperclassmen, including Kevin Gallagher Kevin Gallagher 5’11” | CG Grove City | 2024 State OH , Daniel Fetty Daniel Fetty 6’3″ | SG Grove City | 2023 State OH and Graydon Hutchinson. I think the Greyhounds could be a sleeper in central Ohio this winter.
Rice had an efficient 29-point performance, making 9 of 13 field goal attempts inside 3-point range. Rice has really good touch on floaters and when he’s attacking the basket he’s really tough to stop. I’ll be closely following how Rice shoots the ball from the outside this season, he went 0/2 on 3’s but was 11/15 on free throws. After shooting it at 39% as a Junior he really struggled in EYBL play, getting a consistent jumper will make a huge difference on his potential to make an immediate impact at Murray State. Rice also had three steals, showing some of his defensive potential. Huber Heights Wayne likes to play up-tempo which is the best fit for Rice’s game, and he made an excellent style of play decision when committing to the Racers.
Robinson is the ultimate glue guy and one of the best prospects I’ve ever scouted from an intangibles perspective. However, for Buchtel, Robinson has to take on a bigger scoring role than he has for Indiana Elite. Robinson did a good job scoring around the basket, using his strength and touch at the rim. Robinson also had a dunk in traffic with a couple defenders in the area that caught me a little off guard. If Robinson can continue to knock down outside shots then he’s going to have a chance to get on the floor at the next level because he will win coaches over with the stuff that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet that he provides.
On a night where most of Pickerington Central did not match the intensity that Spire brought, Spiva was not backing down from anybody on the other side of him. Spiva was hustling defensively, causing havoc and helping start transition opportunities. Spiva came to play and was a major bright spot on a disappointing night for the defending state champs. If Spiva can continue to improve his jumper and add to his scoring ability he will rise in the rankings. I loved what Spiva brought to the court on Saturday and in a crowded backcourt for the Tigers, he’s making a case to get more playing time.

Hamilton brought the spark for a STVM squad that’s having to adjust offensively without a go-to scorer like Jayvon Graves, Lunden McDay, Malaki Branham or Sencire Harris. That’s a lot of star talent that’s carried the Irish offensively for over half a decade. The Irish will win in different ways this season and Hamilton’s offensive spark was what they needed on the road. Hamilton looks a little skinner than before and quicker on the ball. Reynoldsburg struggled to stay in front of Hamilton and his shot-making was superb in a grind it out victory.
