Continue ReadingA new school scoring record was set for the Mayde Creek Rams by sophomore Jamal Chretien Jamal Chretien 6’5″ | SG Mayde Creek | 2025 State #356 Nation TX who went crazy and dropped 47 points. The 6-foot-4-inch lefty displayed a great scoring and shooting prowess with range that would demoralize any defense. Jamal shredded the defense with his elite three level scoring. In the mid-range, he finished with a left-handed runner on the right side of the floor, and on the left side of the floor Chretien took it all the way to the basket. From outside Jamal Chretien Jamal Chretien 6’5″ | SG Mayde Creek | 2025 State #356 Nation TX was on fire, torching Sam Houston for 9 three-pointers that all came off the dribble. Jamal displayed a lethal stop and pop while stepping into his shot and when using a screen to get an open look. Another way he was able to get the shot he wanted was by creating separation with his combo moves that led into a fluid stepback jumper. So far this season, Jamal Chretien Jamal Chretien 6’5″ | SG Mayde Creek | 2025 State #356 Nation TX is biggest stock riser of his class, he’s already doubled his average from last season and is currently sitting at 25.5 points per contest on 50% shooting from the field.
Grapevine Faith’s true three-point specialist had yet another game where he torched a team from beyond the arc, drilling 4-of-7 three pointers in route to 20 points. Grant Rein Grant Rein 6’0″ | SG Grapevine Faith Christian | 2023 State TX showed off shooting range that extended from well beyond the college three with a fluid release. He made defenders pay for giving him space to shoot. I admire how Grant Rein Grant Rein 6’0″ | SG Grapevine Faith Christian | 2023 State TX is steadily showing improvement, his release has appears to have gotten quicker and it showed on each three-pointer that he hit, Rein was capable of getting his shot off before a defender had the a chance to close out on him effectively. The senior guard has also made a few plays off the dribble showing a smooth hesi, stop-and-go that froze his defender and got him all the way to the rack with ease. Grant Rein Grant Rein 6’0″ | SG Grapevine Faith Christian | 2023 State TX s success from three point range is always something to keep watch of, as of right now Rein has already made 34 three pointers at a 41% clip while averaging 13.5 points per game
Bugg Edwards got to start in one of the biggest games of the season and he did not disappoint. The sophomore guard drilled his first shot attempt from the left corner three in transition after catching, jabbing towards the baseline, and letting it fly. Edwards did a great job of sprinting without the ball, getting to his spots in transition and quickly setting his feet. Kayden was so hot that he knocked down 3 three-pointers in the first half from the exact same spot, all off the catch, he even came right out of halftime and stepped into another three-pointer. When I say Edwards was really feeling it I mean it, and it looks like he’s starting to develop a his feel for the game.
At the Thanksgiving Hoopfest, Wyatt ran up against Columbus High School and Myles Rigsby Myles Rigsby 6’5″ | CG O.D. Wyatt | 2023 State TX played with a cool, calm, and collected aggression to his game. The 6-foot-6 combo guard showed strong body control and power whenever he initiated the contact and absorbed bumps like a champ while finishing the play and maintaining his balance. Rigsby came alive at the end of the first quarter when he nailed a pull-up buzzer beating three-pointer with two defenders contesting him, throughout the game Myles made his presence felt from outside by drilling multiple three-pointers the anytime he was able to step into his shot and shoot it with rhythm.
6-foot-3 freshman Silas Rodriguez Silas Rodriguez 6’3″ | CG Denton Guyer | 2026 State TX was excellent in his off-ball scoring role for the Denton Guyer Wildcats. He effected the outcome of the game with his pure shooting while burying shots in several different ways. Silas played alongside two of top-ranked sophomore guards in Texas, he stood out in a strong way, and made the most of his shot opportunities, knocking down jumpers fading away, spotting up, catching and shooting on the move, nailing contested jumpshots at a high rate, and if he was left open it was almost a guarantee to fall. The shooting assassin was always in the right spot offensively, especially beyond the perimeter where you could find him with his feet set and hands ready to catch and fire at all times. Textbook jumper, good elevation, impeccable balance, consistent form, polished footwork, and great touch. Silas has future three-point specialist written all over him. Rodriguez will be known as one of, if not the best jump shooter in Texas from the 2026 class before it’s all said and done.
