The contest featured two matchups for the Silver Miners, one against the “Green Team” and one against Compass’ powerhouse National Team. I watched both games, here’s a look at my takeaway from the contest.
Robel Zemmo Robel Zemmo 6'2" | PG Desert Valley Prep | 2023 State NV can score it – Zemmo played better against the National Team than he did against Compass’ Green Team. The lefty got to the bucket and was good at finishing over defenders when driving to his strong hand. He didn’t shoot lights out, but he shot enough to keep defenders honest, opening up driving lanes for himself.
Marquis Cook Marquis Cook 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #6 Nation AZ may be the best point forward in the country – I’ve watched Cook play for years and have always been impressed by his versatility. For a 5-star recruit, his best skill may be his unselfishness. I have no clue what Cook scored, but his ability to facilitate and make quick decisions, helped him serve as the hub of Compass’ offense.
Zayden High Zayden High 6'9" | PF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #40 Nation AZ May be the best stretch 4 in America – High shot the ball like one of the best pure shooters in America, regardless of position. The 6’10 future North Carolina Tar Heel was money, especially from the corners, he’s the prototypical stretch player, as his shooting ability instantly took Maker away from the basket. Just to prove that he’s not perfect, High did shoot a precarious airball late in the game, however, we’ll chalk it up to fatigue, as he was pretty accurate the rest of the evening.
Khaman Maker Khaman Maker 7'1" | C Trinity | 2024 State #127 Nation NV is the best Shot blocker in America – I thought this was true last season and the 7’2 center from Senegal didn’t disappoint. Despite having high flying, athletes attack him in waves, Maker did a better-than-average job of protecting the rim. He had a sensational two-hand block that reminded everyone just how valuable of a rim protector he is.
There’s a level out there for Andrew Fuquay Andrew Fuquay 6'7" | SF Desert Valley Prep | 2023 State NV – I caught up with Faquay before the game, to get an idea about the type of interest he’s receiving. The short answer is none. The forward simply has too many skills in my opinion for that to be accurate. He showed that he is just as athletic as any of the guys on the floor, throwing down a ridiculous lob dunk that brought even the opposing crowd to its feet. The big question for him will be is he more of a small ball or a traditional four-man? He didn’t do a ton of things offensively on the perimeter, however, he showed that he can defend the position effectively.
