Today we check out the Sargent County Bulldogs. This squad is a co-op of 3 high schools. Milnor, North Sargent, and Sargent Central make up the Sargent County Bulldogs. Ryan Weber is the head coach of the Bulldogs and he does a nice job with that program. SC has some very nice players and I think they will be a top 4 team in Region 1. They have an All-Region guard with Willprecht and some noteworthy size and athleticism to go along with him. The Bulldogs have the potential to be a scary team in March.

Top Bulldogs
Luke Martinson Luke Martinson 6'4" | PF Sargent County | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’4 G/F|
He is going to be a central piece of this Bulldog team. Luke can play both inside and out and he is growing more and more comfortable with the ball in his hands. He expanded his shooting range this past summer and he should be a real threat from the outside. Martinson is a physical player that does not back down from anyone. He will have a good chance to be a double-double guy and an All-Region player.
Gaven Christianson (2023) |5’11 F/C|
He surprised some folks last year. Gavin plays an unconventional style of basketball but gets the job done. Christianson works incredibly hard on each possession and he does not turn the ball over. Gavin is a leader and does not let his teammates take any possessions off.
Josh Wittich Josh Wittich 6'5" | PF Sargent County | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’5” G/F|
During the off-season, Josh expanded his skill set a ton. He played AAU ball for the first time and was in the gym quite often. Wittich can play both inside and out and he is pretty quick for a big kid. Josh is an exceptional athlete and you should look for him to have a breakout year.
Fletcher Willprecht Fletcher Willprecht 5'9" | PG Sargent County | 2023 State ND (2023) |5’9″ G|
He was the guy that made the Bulldogs go last year. When things slowed down, Fletch got Sargent County going again. He creates a ton of opportunities for himself and for those around him. The Bulldogs need Willprecht on the floor, he is a playmaker. Fletch was an All-Region player last year and he will be one of the best guards again this season.
Q & A with coach Ryan Weber
PHD: Could you write a couple of sentences summing up last season?
Coach Weber: “Our growth as a team last year was huge. We had a shift in offense from slowing it down to getting up and down the floor quicker. We headed into regions as the 4 seed and got knocked out right away, but we outperformed expectations.”
PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?
Coach Weber: “The team was really dedicated to getting as much time in together. We traveled to a few camps. Aberdeen, Fargo, Carrington, and Moorhead twice. The kids played pretty well in each, which is nice to see.”
PHD: Who are a few players to look out for and why?
Coach Weber: “A couple of kids to watch for are Luke Martinson Luke Martinson 6'4" | PF Sargent County | 2024 State ND , Fletcher Willprecht Fletcher Willprecht 5'9" | PG Sargent County | 2023 State ND , and Josh Wittich Josh Wittich 6'5" | PF Sargent County | 2024 State ND . They are the leaders of our team. Luke and Josh are both pretty big and can play inside and out. They will present some matchup difficulties somewhere down the road. Fletcher is about as quick and athletic as they come. He can get by most defenders and create a lot of easy shots for himself and his teammates.”
PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for in the future?
Coach Weber: “I’d watch for Nick Hansen and Grady Wehlander. They’ll both see an expanded role for us this year. Both are Juniors.”
PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?
Coach Weber: “Well, we like to get up and down as much as possible. Try to create some easy looks for each of our guys.”
PHD: Who are your biggest rival schools and why?
Coach Weber: “I would say Lisbon is our biggest rival just based on proximity. That matchup always seems to draw a great crowd and creates an awesome atmosphere for players on both teams. The players on the teams know each other pretty well, so it creates a nice competitive atmosphere between the teams. Nothing dirty or mean or negative or anything like that. Just a good, competitive game.”
PHD: In your opinion, who are some of the top teams in Region 1 and why?
Coach Weber: “Central Cass and Kindred are definitely two teams to watch. Central Cass returns almost everyone and has a really impressive junior class. I know Kindred lost a few guys, but there are some young guys that will step right into those spots. Both Coach Norman and Coach Woehl do a great job developing talent and having their guys ready each game.”
Good Luck Bulldogs!
