The 2022-23 high school basketball season is underway as Raleigh Christian Academy got the year started with an early trip to Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, to battle against the nationally-heralded Oak Hill Academy Warriors led by first-year head coach Yerrick Stoneman.
Both teams battled things out in the first quarter, as the Warriors, led by speedy 2024 floor general Zion Pipkin Zion Pipkin 6'1" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2024 VA and 2024 forwards Micah Robinson and AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA led the attack against the Eagles. The Eagles were paced in the early going by some shots from 2025 wing Ira Wilson Ira Wilson 6'7" | SF South Wake Sabres | 2025 State NC and 2025 forward Kaleb Santos Kaleb Santos 6'9" | C South Wake | 2025 State NC . After the first quarter, Oak Hill led 18-12.
In the second quarter, both teams started to assert themselves on the hardwood. Robinson showed off his stroke from deep while Pipkin showed he could distribute and score just as well. Swinton held things down in the paint with some easy baskets when needed. At the half, the Warriors led by just eight points, 35-27 thanks for some buckets from their trio of star prospects. The Eagles did well to keep pace though, with Gabe Marquis Gabe Marquis 6'1" | CG Greenfield | 2024 State NC pacing the offense with eight points and Wilson finishing with seven points at the half.
In the second half, Oak Hill started to create some separation as they opened the third quarter on an 8-0 to grow the lead to 16 points. The lead was capitalized by a big dunk in the paint from Swinton to get the crowd going. Nick Anthony Nick Anthony 6'3" | CG Raleigh Christian Academy | 2023 State NC and Jakel Powell Jakel Powell 6'5" | SF Raleigh Christian Academy | 2024 NC would hit a pair of 3-pointers to respond to the run, but more Swinton buckets grew the lead to 24 points for the Warriors. Oak Hill would outscore RCA 23-7 in the third quarter to ride a comfortable 58-34 lead into the final frame.
The Eagles didn’t go down without a fight in the fourth quarter, but it was just too much Oak Hill in the final quarter. The role players, led by 2023 wing Elijah Mitchell Elijah Mitchell 6'5" | PF Oak Hill | 2023 State VA , would weather the storm in the quarter as the Warriors would cruise to a 80-53 victory in the end.
Swinton was the most impressive of the Oak Hill Warriors in their victory in the end. He didn’t try to overdo things when opportunities came his way and showed his ability to finish at the rim. He’s a high-major prospect worth getting to know in the 2024 class. He led the way for his squad with 20 points and also registered four steals, showing off his length defensively.

Robinson was another impressive prospect on the hardwood, utilizing his size and length to knock down shots in the paint, on the perimeter and rebound the ball in bunches. He finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point land in the victory for the Oak Hill Warriors. He’s a prospect with tremendous upside for this squad.
Pipkin was impressive running the show for the Oak Hill Warriors. He made good decisions out of the pick-and-roll game and did well to find his scorers in space when needed, especially during their big second half run. He also finished with a double-double on the day with 13 points and 10 assists to show off his point guard ability. He’s an underrated name to get to know in the 2024 class.
Marquis was the best all-around player on the floor for RCA in their season opener, leading the way for them with 11 points, six assists and three steals in the backcourt. He didn’t back down from the challenge of facing some high-level talent as he made things happen on all three levels, knocking down a 3-pointer and getting to the free-throw line.
Anthony showed he could operate with and without the ball in his hands for the Eagles. He led the way for them in scoring with 15 points on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point land and 4-of-7 shooting from the field while dishing out five assists as well. He’s a combo guard that continues to show his development as more than a shooter in NC’s 2023 class.
Santos showed flashes of what he could do, though he finished with just four points and two rebounds in the contest. He’s a young 2025 prospect in NC that’s just scratching the surface of what he can do. As his guards find ways to get him the ball in space, look for him to grow with this group.
