Simon was really good out of the high post where he hit several contested jumpers from 15-20 feet. He also knocked down 4 threes and shot it well from all over. Simon is a very versatile forward that can attack defenses from inside-out and that’s exactly what he did on Saturday. In time, I think he’ll prove to be a huge steal for Dayton.
The move from Grayson to Walnut Grove has looked very beneficial so far as Deston Christian Deston Christian 6’6″ | SF Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC has established himself as Walnut Grove’s go-to guy when they need a bucket. He finished with 25 points in a 2-point loss to Tri-Cities but hit a couple of threes late in the 4th to make it interesting. Christian has solid guard skills with a grown’s man body and can play the 2-4 effectively. He draws a lot of mismatches because he can take smaller defenders to the paint or break down bigs if they try to guard him on the perimeter. He’ll be an interesting prospect to track in the spring as well.
Keith Williams Keith Williams 6’8″ | C Mt. Vernon Presbyterian | 2023 State GA had a strong showing on Saturday, anchoring the middle and playing a huge role in Mt. Vernon’s win over Lanier. Williams is the walking definition of a paint presence. He’s so big and strong at 6’8, 290 lbs and is constantly throwing his body around, fighting for position around the basket. He scored it well from the low post and was able to get to the free throw line a lot. Williams also did a great job of protecting the rim, denying a handful of layups off penetration. He remains one of Georgia’s best available 2023 bigs.
Jayce Nathaniel Jayce Nathaniel 6’7″ | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ is a hot name right now within a lot of circles and he showed why on Saturday. His size, athleticism, and skillset make for a very intriguing prospect and his recruiting really started to pickup over the summer. He led Lanier in scoring on Saturday with 18 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Nathaniel proved to be a dangerous lob threat, catching and finishing multiple alley-oops in the game. He’s also got a nice jumper and constantly hit from 15 if there wasn’t a hand in his face. His recruitment will be very fun to track over the next year or two.
Chad Moodie Chad Moodie 6’7″ | PF Grayson | 2023 State GA came out of the locker room ready to go and established an early tone for Grayson in the first quarter. Moodie had a couple of first half blocks and was effective on the glass all night. He finished the game with an efficient 14 points and drew a lot of fouls in the process. Moodie looks much improved since watching him play over the summer and I’ve noticed a lot more bounce in his game lately. He’s consistently playing above the rim, catching lobs, putbacks, or denying layups. Alabama A&M is getting a guy that will help them win a lot of games over the next few years.
