It was a physical back and forth battle with Olympia coming out on top in the first 10 minutes 25 – 16. Mostly due to Andreas Engholm Andreas Engholm 6'8" | PF Olympia | 2023 State WA being found underneath for some easy layups. It was Tumwater who went on to dominate the 2nd 10 minutes 21-13. Luke Brewer Luke Brewer 6'2" | PG Tumwater | 2023 State WA led the charge with some great all around play. Connor Hopkins Connor Hopkins 6'1" | SG Tumwater | 2023 WA hit some shots. Luke Reid found the bottom of the net from deep. It was a great effort inside from Gunnar Harroun Gunnar Harroun 6'6" | PF Tumwater | 2023 WA who must have blocked 5 Olympia shots. Speaking of shots, they were not easy to come by in either 10 with both teams playing aggressive defense.
Notables
‘He didn’t score much but had his usual good floor game, finding Engholm down low with some great dimes and keeping the floor spacing. Mason Jeurgens cashed in on three triples in the first 10 minutes. He affects the game in a positive way when he is on the floor. Period.
Highlights
He and Gerrits started the first 10 matched up together. Brewer picked Gerrits clean early in the game at half court. Something you don’t see often. He stated the game getting fouled on a three and surprisingly missed two of the three free throws. I think he was getting those out of his system early. He showed that he can and will be a facilitator this season with attention surely focused on him most nights. He finds his people at the right time and place. He’s tough and doesn’t back down. He hit a tough three also with a hand in his face. He didn’t have many open looks but he adjusted, being more of a floor general and getting to the line a bit. His ability to be an all around guard who sets up his teammates will be big this year for a Tumwater team that has other weapons. He’ll be just fine in the scoring column as well.
Highlights
He was the difference in the first 10, getting some wide open looks underneath. Scoring 12 on the night. Gerrits, much like Brewer turned into a facilitating guard. Those two make basketball plays and good decisions. They are always helping their team by being the kind of playmaking guards that keep their team organized. He hit a three and a couple easy ones. Neither forced the issue and neither were left open much. Engholm runs the floor and knows he will get the ball from his playmaker. That’s exactly what happened.
Highlights
He hit shots. He is a good shooter and will find himself open with the attention Brewer gets. The impressive thing fact that both Gerrits and Brewer are going to score but both these teams are deep with a bunch of high IQ players. Neither team seemed to want the other to get any easy ones. Both teams were physical on defense. Hopkins has a nice shot and he can get hot.

He was a big time presence in the paint. He blocked several shots, which was a key factor in Tumwater winning the second 10 minutes. He was active and if he can consistently do this for Tumwater it will help them big time on the defensive end of the floor. He’s long and can change shots, which he did several times.
Both teams came out physical and played hard, making it tough on one another. Nobody wanted to give an inch. The defense will travel for both teams, making each a threat to make a deep run in March. Basketball is officially here and this was a fun battle between close friends off the court who played together in the off-season. Good luck to both teams in their quest for a state title this season.
