Continue ReadingWe have almost made it, folks. The Indiana High School Basketball Season is officially just one week away as I write this one Monday, November 14th. Our team here at Prep Hoops Indiana has been getting you ready for the upcoming season for months now. Countless preview articles have highlighted all you need to know around the state while trips to 23 different high school open gyms gave you a more in-depth look at some of the top programs. Now, it is time to start pushing out some preseason all-state selections and Mr. Basketball candidates. This is always a contentious topic, but we do or best to cover our bases from every corner of the state. Here is the first of our Prep Hoops Indiana Mr. Basketball candidates.
Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN had to battle through injuries during his junior season. The star 6’4″ guard missed five games with an ankle injury, but still was named to the Indiana Junior All-Star team as a “core” member. Imes averaged 17.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while helping to lead Zionsville to a 14-8 record. Now, the Penn State signee will look to take the Eagles to a Sectional 8 championship and beyond. He will get the benefit of playing alongside 6’9″ Charlotte commit Nick Richart Nick Richart 6'9" | PF Zionsville | 2023 State IN to create one of the best inside-outside duos in the state. Zionsville has an excellent mixture of veteran experience and super talented sophomore class that will step into major rotation roles.
Imes is an elite floor general with great size and a high basketball IQ. He can create his own shot, is very efficient from all three levels of the floor, and is polished playing off of a ballscreen. His ability to score, create, and pass at his size in the backcourt makes him one of the hardest players to guard in the state. When you mix his individual skills with the likely success that the Eagles will experience it is safe to assume he will be a major candidate to win Indiana’s most prestigious award.
From a career standpoint, the Zionsville guard should reach the 1,000 point milestone sometime late in the season. He currently sits 686 points. The #4 ranked prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana, Imes has the makings of a traditional Mr. Basketball candidate. It will be fun to follow his senior season.
Path to Winning Mr. Basketball: While he may not be a front-runner, there really is a pretty clear path to how Imes would garner a lot of votes at the end of the season. Zionsville doesn’t have the same preseason hype as a Ben Davis or Cathedral, but the Eagles have plenty of talent and can compete with anyone in the state. If they were to make a run to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN leading them there, it would be hard to argue against him. A 20+ point per game season and a state championship ring would make it so that voters would have to consider the future Nittany Lion.
