Continue ReadingUniversity of Pittsburgh signee, Jaland Lowe Jaland Lowe 6’2″ | PG Fort Bend Marshall | 2023 State #124 Nation TX , really emerged during his junior season as one of the best point guard prospects in the state as he put up 25.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game and this past summer, Lowe caught everyone’s attention as one of the biggest stock risers while playing on the Nike EYBL Circuit. Lowe is a pure floor general with impeccable scoring efficiency and capabilities unlike any other. The 6-foot-2 lefty creates plays with his handles, makes his teammates better with his passing, and demoralizes his opponent with his lights-out shooting. I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Jaland Lowe Jaland Lowe 6’2″ | PG Fort Bend Marshall | 2023 State #124 Nation TX led the state in scoring this season. Currently, he’s averaging 26.2 points and 8.2 rebounds over the last 4 games with a season high of 31 points. This is just the start for Lowe, he’s only going to raise his level of play as the season goes on.
Top-ranked shooting guard, Wesley Yeates, is cool, calm, collected, and equipped with the most deadly, efficient, and consistent jumpshot in the entire state. The future Washington Huskie can knock down a shot in every way possible, whether he’s on or off balance, fading away, jumping off one foot, spotting up, or being contested. Yates has been a huge reason the Timberwolves have been so competitive and dynamic throughout his time there but this year he’ll be the main key to Beaumont United’s success as he hunts for a third straight state title. So far this season, Wesley is on a good pace to be atop the Mr. Texas Basketball leaderboard starting the year by putting up 22.6 points per game.
Tre Johnson Tre Johnson 6’5″ | SG Link Academy | 2024 #4 Nation MO is looking to become the first junior in history to ever win the Mr. Texas Basketball award and he has a very good chance of doing so. As a sophomore, he averaged 23.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, and his numbers are expected to go up this season. Johnson is the top-ranked prospect in the nation on everyone’s chart for a reason, he flat-out dominates his opponent in the most remarkable ways imaginable, a true scoring wizard who’s seemingly unguardable, the type of player that can put up 20 points on a bad day. The highly touted athlete brings a lot to the table that leads to winning games and with a competitive supporting cast like he has Tre may be able to lead the Wildcats to a 6A State Championship this season.

Bizjack has the Byron Nelson Bobcats off to an outstanding 9-0 start on the season while leading them in scoring in spectacular fashion. The senior guard has been the ultimate playmaker, playing like a man possessed game to game with a special determination, will to win, and bucket-getting confidence that has gone unmatched. There has been only one game this season where Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6’5″ | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX has tallied less than 25 points and five games where he’s dropped 30 points or more, Bizjack has even broken the Byron Nelson school record for points in a game with 41 points scored. This dude has become a cheat code on the floor, Finley’s been getting buckets like crazy, averaging 30.7 points per game, not to mention his phenomenal rebounding and facilitating which lands him at nearly a triple-double average this season. With that being said, my favorite to take home the 2023 Mr. Texas Basketball award is Butler University signee, Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6’5″ | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX .

Since the very first game, M.J. Thomas M.J. Thomas 6’7″ | PF Link Academy | 2024 MO has put up some of the craziest stat lines you’ll see this season, we’re only a couple of weeks in and he already has three 20-point, double-digit rebounding games, including a performance where Thomas went for 20 points and 20 boards against crosstown rivals Denton Guyer. The senior forward has produced a vigorous double-double in each game so far, which seems like a trend that isn’t going to stop soon; and he’s doing it all while shooting over 60% from the field and 80% from the foul line. M.J. Thomas M.J. Thomas 6’7″ | PF Link Academy | 2024 MO has built one of the most decorated individual high school careers in the state and he’s not done yet, the Mr. Texas Basketball award would be a perfect addition to his hardware.

Ron Holland Ron Holland 6’9″ | PF Duncanville | 2023 State #7 Nation TX may be the most decorated player in the country and taking home the Mr. Texas Basketball award would be an amazing way to close out his illustrious high school career. I think it’s safe to say that the future Texas Longhorn may be in for his best season yet. Year to year, he has raised his level of play and this season has been no different, he’s already posted a new career high with a 32-point performance against Brennan High School and also has Duncanville off to a hot start this season with a 3-0 record against some of the top teams in the country while dropping an average of 21.6 points and 10 rebounds per game.
