Then on Saturday, I went to Pickerington North’s scrimmages where I saw Emmanuel Christian, Africentric again, Olentangy Orange, Canton McKinley, Pickerington North, and Gilmour Academy. This article will talk about the top guards from this very talented packed weekend.
Turner really impressed me at the All-Ohio Preview. Turner seems to have put some weight on and it showed by how he plays. He was already a shorter stocky point guard but he now just simply got his spots without much resistance. Got to the rim easily and hit multiple midrange pull-ups. Plays with great handle and pace. He showed a very good aggressiveness that he did not have last year that I’m excited to see him continue.
Aikens is a short point guard that can put you on a highlight tape. He is ultra-quick and has an unbelievable handle on the ball. One of the shiftiest players I’ve ever seen. He elevates very high on his jumpers to get his shot off. He is a great athlete. He almost threw one down on a fast break. That should say a lot about how special this 5’9 junior is.
Smith is the player for Shaker Heights this year. Great size for a guard. Elevates high on his jump shots. He has a nice jumper that gets him many buckets. His mid-range game is superb. Gets to his spots, jumps very high, and buckets. He leads by example for Shaker. Very confident player.
I saw Norton first play at the PrepHoops Ohio Top 250 Expo and I was really impressed with his skill and see how he would fit in at Taft. He fits in great. Gives them a shooting threat that creates space. Confident kid. Once his shots start falling he goes to the rim more. The kid has good size. I like what I saw from him on Friday night.
Highlights
Amapps brought a ton of energy in the game I saw against Emmanuel Christian. This kid is a super athlete. He had some highlight-level blocks and was locking down players he was guarding. He is a very good role player and a compliment to fellow guard Arness Lawson Arness Lawson 6’1″ | PG Pickerington North | 2025 State #306 Nation OH . Amapps’ presences was felt by his effort and defense. Exactly what you ask for if you are a coach.
