Several teams from all over Southern California brought their full teams, and Prep Hoops got a chance to evaluate and identify some of the top performing big men. Peyton White Peyton White 6'5" | SF Crespi | 2025 State CA-S , EJ Vernon EJ Vernon 6'7" | SF Crossroads | 2025 State #241 Nation CA-S , Andrew Fielder Andrew Fielder 6'9" | PF Southern California Academy | 2023 #74 Nation CA-S , Juslin Bodo, and Tang Mawien had great games and rounded out the top 5 front court players as we take a deeper dive into them:
White is a very good player with a high ceiling. The 2025 6’6″ prospect did the majority of his damage near the paint and around the rim. White set the tone early and started the game with a spin into a right hook for his first points. It is impressive to watch him work as he displays good footwork and post moves especially for his class. White is a high motor player, hustles, and gobbles up rebounds. He is very tough and got many second chance opportunities for his team. In addition to his post game, he also does a great job facing up as well. There were a couple possessions where White utilized a jab step to create space and finished at the rim. Keep an eye on Peyton White Peyton White 6’5″ | SF Crespi | 2025 State CA-S as he is a D1 prospect quickly darting up the boards and should see his ranking go up during the season.
Fielder is an inside-out big man. The 6’9″ prospect is a strong finisher inside, has good footwork, and can hit the turnaround and fadeaway. On the perimeter, he has a smooth and soft release and a consistent jumper. The combination of his finishing and shooting combined with his footwork and agility make him a high level D1 prospect. Fielder is currently committed to Providence with teammates Garwey Dual Garwey Dual 6’5″ | PG Carmel | 2023 #113 Nation CA-S and Donovan Santoro Donovan Santoro 6’8″ | SF Austin Westlake | 2023 CA-S and will make a huge impact at the next level.
Vernon was the most impressive player on the court for the Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon. The 6’6″ forward was relentless on the boards, boxing out and fighting for loose balls all game long. Vernon showed a strong upper body, high motor, and intensity. The 2025 prospect ran the floor hard and was a spark plug for his team. He made living around the rim with tip ins, follows, and put back finishes. Keep an eye on Vernon as he keeps adding to his game and is getting better week by week.
Highlights
Juslin Bodo
Juslin Bodo
Bodo keeps finding a way to get himself on the top front court players list every single week. This time in a matchup against national ranked UCLA commit Devin Williams Devin Williams 6’10” | PF Corona Centennial | 2023 State #86 Nation CA-S , Bodo displayed his defensive ability and held him to just 4 points. The 7 foot 2023 Southern California Academy prospect is a mobile big man who runs the floor and can affect the game just by being inside the paint. On defense, his length and wingspan bothers everything around the rim as Williams had trouble getting going against him. Great defensive showings on back to back weeks first last week against Maper Maker Maper Maker 6’11” | C Fairmont Prep | 2025 CA-S and this week against Williams. On offense, Bodo does a great job of lingering around the rim for putbacks and for lob opportunities. He currently holds offers from Rutgers, Arizona St, New Mexico St, Temple, among others.
Tang Mawien
Tang Mawien
Mawien is a high motor, mobile, forward who made his living on Saturday by running the floor and grabbing boards. Matched up against a very talented Crossroads front court, Mawien made his presence felt by consistently creating second chance opportunities for his teammates on the glass. The 6’6″ big man did a great job following his teammate shots and finishing in traffic. He is raw at the moment and has potential to add to his game, and we will be looking forward to seeing how Mawien progresses through the season.
