Now Imagine doing that after a year removed from basketball. Even with that, Colin Darfour didn’t miss a beat. In his first year at Legacy, he had the Longhorns playing for a league crown on the last night of the regular season. In his second year, a lot of those same underclassmen have matured and leadership roles have been established. Darfour spends most of the practice teaching fundamentals. Learning Jump stops, and proper passing technique is the order of the day. The team isn’t extremely deep, with only 9 players attending the workout, however, they are big, athletic, and possess a plethora of shooters. In this article, we preview the Legacy Longhorns.
Returners:
Burns maturation will be key to the success of the Longhorns. He was the team’s leading scorer last season as a freshman, but may be expected to do even more this year. The lefty, gets to the bucket at will, and has an array of floaters and tear drops that he likes to use in the paint. He needs to be a threat to score not only for himself, but to open up scoring opportunities for other players as well.
Chambers did what he does best in the workout, shooting the ball amazing from behind the line. He made 5-6 threes during live drills, reminding me why he’s one of the top sharpshooters in the state.
Newcomers:
Dafour told me about Bay before the start of the workout, and the guard didn’t disapoint. He showed the ability to play with good pace, and his passing ability was big time, as he delivered several quality dimes to teammates.
Thompson showed some shiftyness, and wiggle during the workout. He is a dogged defenders that should help the Longhorns on the defensive end.
Smith is a canidate for one of the top glue guys in the state. He showed some toughness, rebounding the ball in trafic. He is good defender, with a solid frame and long arms, which should allow him to battle bigger players, while providing defensive versatility.
I saw Durant a little this summer, and that helped him enter the rankings as a top 100 player. After seeing him again in the workout, I’m a little more intrigued. He is a player with a knack for scoring the basketball, which is something that I liked about him when I saw him during the summer. His timely shot making will be a good fit for the Longhorns.
Sleeper:
Duke has an “it” factor to him. The lefty has a smooth game, and shot the ball well in the workout, including being money from the top of the key. He is part of a young necleus for the Longhorns, and will get minutes and has some skills to contribute.
Top Prospect:
I have been enomored with Riley sense seeing him this summer at the Grizzly summer tournament. It’s easy to fall in love with his size, but he is a legit R&J athlete with the ability to run the floor and get off the ground with some of the best big men in the state. Look for the Longhorns to play through him, as both Riley and coach Darfour are ready to feed the big man in the post.
