Continue ReadingThe annual Spartan Juco Jamboree was held this past weekend. As usual I made a stop at Elgin Community College to see a preview of the some of the area colleges play and get tuned up for this upcoming season. Here are the players that stood out at this year’s Jamboree.
Keyondre Young Triton 6’9
Young is a big guard who has extended range on his shot. He hit several threes from the wing and corner. Young has smooth release on his shot. At his size he did damage from mid-range and beyond. Already a DePaul commit he has length with some added bulk and can be a huge impact after JUCO season.
Isaiah Placide Kankakee 6’5
Isaiah shot the ball well in the game I watched. He made a few three pointers from various spots on the court. Placide had one of the better shooting forms at the event. He is able to score on screens and moves well off the ball.
Ethan Pickett Triton 6’4
Pickett is an energy player who doesn’t need a particular position on the court. He’s very athletic and uses his attributes well on both ends of the court. He has visible physical strength and uses it when driving to the rim. Ethan is committed to UIC and fits the mold of players Luke Yaklich likes in his program.
Delon Zollicoffer Oakton 6’5
I liked what I saw from Delon. He’s a long wing player who has good instincts and skill set. He made a few threes from the corner but didn’t just rely on his shooting. Zollicoffer crashed the boards hard on offense and cleaned off several missed shots. Delon does the simple things needed to win games.
Cha’vez Woods Kankakee 6’2
Woods is a fun guard to watch who could be a potential D1 prospect. He has some nice moves with the ball in his hands getting to the bucket isn’t an issue for him. Cha’vez also can score from three levels and he does it with full confidence.
Daron Hall Elgin 6’0
Hall is a guard who played well when his team needed him the most. Being down at half time he became very assertive on defense forcing a turnover the led to an assist then next possession he hit a deep three to put his team on top. Daron has good instincts on both sides of the ball and proved to be a steady hand for Elgin.
Noah Mason Noah Mason 6'3" | SF Oswego East | 2024 State IL Kankakee 6’7
Mason is a bigger forward from Texas who can really shoot the ball. He has some bulk that helps him on the boards and is definitely more of a faceup big because of his shooting touch. Noah is a respectable rim protector that can improve some when guard opposing post guys.
Former IHSA Standouts
Dylan Fuzak Waubonsee 6’8
Fuzak is a legit stretch forward who has added much needed strength since his high school days at Geneva. Dylan shoots the ball well from three and has improved in the rebounding department.
Kimahri Wilson Triton 6’0
Wilson is still a two way impact player. He always gets after it on defense with his quick hands and impeccable timing in the passing lanes. But Kimahri has transformed from a scoring guard to a pass first playmaker who seems to be destined for a key role with a D1 program next season.
Devon House Sauk Valley 6’8
House had a good showing as well at Elgin. The former Newman Catholic star is still a large player who is very skilled. Superb passer and footwork in the paint. Devon has good touch from three and his feel on the perimeter when assertive. If he can get into good enough shape he can earn another D1 scholarship.
Thomas Sullivan Oakton 6’8
A former New Trier post player played really well. Thomas is a fundamental post player that rebounds the ball well and showcased his ability to block shots. He is a rim running big that cleans up well on the offensive boards but is capable of scoring with either hand out of the post. Any Division 2 schools who run halfcourt sets often would gladly recruit Sullivan.
Andre White McHenry 5’9
White is still a dynamic guard who can get in the lane at will. He didn’t see his shot fall as much but he still can fill it up in bunches. Andre has become a more patient player at the position didn’t seem to force as many plays as he did in high school.
Josh Holmes Kankakee 6’3
Holmes is a defensive guard that can make shots when needed. Josh is an energy guy who plays his role well, he is tenacious on ball defender that causes chaos on ball handlers. On offense he shot the ball pretty well. Holmes still uses a mid-range fadeaway to elevate over defenses similar to his days at De La Salle.
