The top returning player for the team that we project to open the year as the top-ranked team in 1A, Haughenbury is a highly efficient forward who scores in bunches and controls the game with his length and athleticism.
First Team
2023 Tate Haughenbury Tate Haughenbury 6'5" | PF North Linn | 2023 State IA (North Linn): 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 3.0 steals, 67.6 FG%
A long, bouncy forward who is an elite finisher around the rim, Haughenbury is a huge part of what the Lynx do on both ends of the floor. He uses his length to jump passing lanes and turn defense into dunks, and he’s a good rebounder on both ends of the floor.
2024 Mekhi Benton Mekhi Benton 6'3" | PF Central City | 2024 State IA (Central City): 13.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals
An athletic 6-3 forward, Benton led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding as a sophomore. He has good hands and a non-stop motor that he uses to pound the offensive glass relentlessly.
2023 Ben Wheatley Ben Wheatley 6'1" | SG North Linn | 2023 State IA (North Linn): 7.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.6 steals, 50.8 FG%
Wheatley was a really good role player on both ends of the floor for the state champion Lynx last year, and he looks primed and ready to step into a significantly larger role this season. A talented guard who can get to the rim and get others involved, look for him to emerge as one of the best players in the Tri-Rivers.
2023 Cade Sheda (Springville): 9.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.9 steals
The Orioles lost a lot of production off of last year’s team, and it’s Sheda’s turn to take over the reins of the attack. A 6-2/6-3 lead guard with good size and length, he had a strong year as a playmaker as a junior..
2025 Mason Bechen Mason Bechen 6'1" | PG North Linn | 2025 State IA (North Linn): 4.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals, 49.5 FG%
Bechen came off the bench as a freshman to provide a spark as a scorer and facilitator for the Lynx, and he should step into the primary ball-handling role as a sophomore, which is a coveted position for North Linn’s up-tempo system. A talented guard who can score from all three levels, create chaos defensively, and get others involved, look for Bechen to have a huge sophomore year replacing Austin Hilmer.
