With the new Fall Ball era here in NorCal, PH has been able to see a few quality Freshman who’ll play, and be contributors on the varsity. It gives us a better idea on the rankings as well. Here’s six Freshman we’ve seen play.
Damarcus Cobb Jr. 6’2 PG of Edison HS, Stockton, CA
A thick body guard with a good set of skills for the point guard position. He’ll have his ups and downs as a Freshman on the varsity, but he’s primed to be a solid contributor on this team. He’s a willing distributor, with head up and good court vision, in transition, and half-court sets. He has a decent pull-up jumper. He’ll penetrate the paint for dishes, or finish through contact on the drive.
Myles Wiggins 6’5 W/F of Capital Christian HS
Wiggins can be an impact player if continues to put in the work. He’s a starter, and a contributor on the varsity for now. He’s long, athletic, and good at filling lanes in transition, he’s court runner. He has good bounce, and will challenge those who come into the paint. He gives good effort going after blocks and rebounds, he doesn’t give up on the play. He’s got a jump hook, and strong put backs for points.
Mohammed Kamar 6’4 W/F of Capital Christian HS
He’s long, jumps well and plays hard for the time he’s on the court. He’s active going after rebounds on both ends. He’s going to generate playing time with his effort on the defensive side of the ball, while he continues to develop his offensive skills. He runs the court looking to finish in transition. He’ll look to finish with dump-offs, and put-backs to generate points. He’ll take an open shot if it’s there. We’ll keep Watching.
Rodney Westmoreland III 5’10 PG of Dougherty Valley HS.
We got our first glimpse of the speedy floor general at Section 7, playing behind Ryan Beasley Ryan Beasley 5'11" | PG Dougherty Valley | 2023 State #228 Nation CA-N (top 5 in NorCal) his minutes might be limited. He’ll have to be patient, nevertheless he’s one to watch. He’s coming off a top 30 appearance at the Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp where he put on a show. He’s good enough to be a contributor this year.
Myles Jones 6’0 Guard of Folsom HS.
We’ve seen enough of Jones to know he’s going to be a contributor at some point. He’s on a good team with depth, so he’ll have to earn his minutes. He has a good understanding of the game, along with a good set of tools to work with. He’s a willing passer, with good court vision. He has good shooting form , he can hit 3’s and mid-range jumpers. He’s long, slender, and growing. We’ll see more of him.
Tommy Tofi 6’6 Center of Sheldon HS
He’s a big body Center who’ll most likely play football at the next level with continued development. He likes playing basketball. He has the paint presence that comes with his size. He’s strong, and has to be dealt with when he’s in the game. He has work to do but, he’s going to be a contributor at some point.
