This is always an excellent league that runs throughout the month of October featuring many of the best players in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. Here are some of the takeaways I had from my day in the gym on Sunday.
- One of the top performers from Sunday’s action was Preston Roberts Preston Roberts 6'5" | SF Noblesville | 2023 State IN (Noblesville H.S. 2023). The versatile 6’5″ wing had the best parts of his game on full display. He was excellent in transition, beat some people driving the ball to his right, and finished up above the rim. Less than 24 hours later, Roberts announced his commitment to IU-Kokomo. He is ranked as the #40 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana.
- Marian University landed a really good one when the got a commitment from Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN (Greenfield-Central H.S. 2023). The 6’3″ guard showed off his three-level scoring ability on Sunday. He is an elite jump shooter that can create separation off of the bounce and make tough shots. When he attacks the basket, he has the size and upper body strength to take on contact and finish. He should have a huge scoring season and could be a dark horse candidate for an Indiana All-Star spot.
- I was really impressed with the continued development of 6’8″ center Cole Duncan Cole Duncan 6'9" | C Cowan | 2024 State IN (Cowan H.S. 2024). The long junior big man has added some physical strength, moves around the floor with good mobility, and showed excellent instincts when blocking shots at the rim. Offensively, he keeps the ball high to get into his post moves and showed the ability to finish with his back to the basket some. He continues to really improve and it will be interesting to see where his ceiling ends up being.
- It came in a losing effort in the championship game of the Metro Indy Fall League, but Jordan Lomax Jordan Lomax 6'3" | SG Brownsburg | 2024 State IN (Avon H.S. 2024) had one of the best individual performances of the day. The athletic guard put up 29 points including connecting on four three-pointers to keep his team in the game. His ability to use his athleticism to attack the rim, while also shooting it the way he does, makes him a very tough cover for opposing defenses. Will be an Indiana Junior All-Star candidate if he can take his recent strong play into the high school season.
- 6’3″ guard Damien King Damien King 6'4" | SF Anderson | 2025 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2025) played very, very well in the moments that I saw. He got hot from beyond the arc hitting back-to-back three-pointers from well beyond the arc. He has great size and strength for his position on the perimeter and can score the basketball in a variety of ways. I’d expect to see him early blossom during his sophomore season.
- A new name of someone who I really hadn’t seen play yet that stood out was Tanner Teshendorf (Mount Vernon Fortville H.S. 2025). The 6’1″ point guard is a good playmaker with the ball in his hands. He got into the paint consistently and impressed with how he would play off of two feet at the end of his drives. Strong finisher, good passer, and had a nice intermediate range finishing package.
