Here’s a look at part one of some of the top juniors that were in attendance.
Kyan Bowman Kyan Bowman 6'4" | SF St. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2024 State VA | 6’4” WF | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Bowman looks like he’s set to have a breakout season at SSSAS which is a team that will surprise a lot of people as many expected them to go through a rebuilding year but their young players are stepping up in the preseason. Bowman’s a versatile wing offensively who can get downhill and is a strong and athletic finisher around the rim, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange and he’s a hard worker on the glass on both ends of the floor.
Jaedon Harris Jaedon Harris 5'11" | PG John Paul The Great | 2024 State VA | 5’11” PG | John Paul the Great
Harris has shown time and time again he’s one of the most underrated point guards in all of VA, and this past weekend he was absolutely fantastic for JPG as they showed they’ll surprise a lot of people this year. He’s a throwback style floor general who is a natural leader and makes everyone on his team better, he can create shots off the bounce for himself and is a good finisher with floaters and touch over bigger defenders and he brings a lot of heart to the game on both ends of the floor.
Phoenix Shahateet Phoenix Shahateet 6'4" | SF Gainesville | 2024 VA | 6’3” WG | Unity Reed
Shahateet is starting to make a name for himself as one of the top players in the Prince William County area, and this weekend he proved why as he was very productive across the board for his Unity Reed team. The 6’3” off guard is a highly skilled player who can do a little bit of everything as he rebounded well and started the break, he scored the ball well from multiple levels both on and off the basketball and I fully expect him to have a big breakout season this year.
Malachi Palmer Malachi Palmer 6'6" | SF Mt. Zion Prep | 2024 #53 Nation MD | 6’2” PG | Mt. Zion Prep
Palmer is a nationally ranked lead guard who has a lot of what you look for in a top tier point guard ranging from his size and strength to his ability to run the show and and create scoring opportunities for himself and others. He plays with great pace and has good burst but changes speeds well too, he gets in the lane easily and makes good decisions as both a scorer and a distributor and he sets the tone on both ends of the floor too.
MJ Smith MJ Smith 6'2" | SG Manor | 2023 VA | 6’2” CG | Mt. Zion Prep
The Portsmouth native transferred to Mt. Zion and looks like he’s starting to turn the corner as far as his development as an athlete and a player. Smith has always been a knock down shooter from deep with effortless range and a quick release, he looks much more comfortable handling the basketball now and showed good playmaking ability and he’s becoming stronger and much more bouncy when he gets downhill making him a much better finisher.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'4" | SF St. Charles | 2024 State MD | 6’3” WG| St. Charles
Brown is a name to get to know in the Waldorf area for a St. Charles team that’s going to be a tough out this year for anyone, as the 6’3” wing is a big time athlete who produces across the board. He gets downhill well and is a big time finisher at and above the rim, he’s a good defender who jumps passing lanes and moves his feet well to stay in front and he is a good rebounder as well.
