It is a high-level event with top notch competition and quality teams. This report takes a look at some higher-level available class of 2023 guards from the Top Flight (highest) Division of the event.
6’2 PG Bronny James Bronny James 6'2" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2023 State #43 Nation CA-S of CBC (Sierra Canyon HS, CA)
Probably no player in America has had more written about him than Bronny James Bronny James 6'2" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2023 State #43 Nation CA-S . His athleticism and feel for the game are most impressive and he does have the ability to make those around him better. James can do just about everything you could ask of lead guard and has a strong work ethic. He currently has four schools on his list (Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Memphis) but is open to others jumping in. He is planning to sign after the season is over.
6’5 G AJ Johnson AJ Johnson 6'5" | PG Taft | 2023 #26 Nation CA-S of Donda Academy, CA
Johnson is an electrifying athlete with big-time burst and the ability to elevate over defenders. His first step can give defenders whiplash when he blows by them. He excels in transition and has proven himself to be a more-than-adequate shooter. His size and length make him an extremely difficult matchup. IF he takes care of business academically Johnson will make a high-major school very happy when it is all said and done.
6’4 CG Sebastian Mack Sebastian Mack 6'4" | CG Coronado | 2023 State #58 Nation NV of Air Nado (Coronado HS, NV)
Mack showed out in a number of ways and gave a clear indication of the talent he has. There has never been a doubt about his abilities on the court. The Durango transfer has settled in at Coronado and he displayed a very good all-around offensive game. He can score every way possible and is relentless in attacking the defense- both in transition and in the half court. Mack’s a high-level talent who is back on the radar.
6’3 CG Mike Price Mike Price 6'2" | PG Corona Centennial | 2023 State #162 Nation CA-S of Hoop Nation (Corona Centennial HS, CA)
Price is quietly proving day in and day out that he is a high-level prospect. The Sierra Canyon transfer has to share the wealth with other elite players so he does shine as much as he would on a “normal” team. (And yes Centennial is definitely not a normal team.) Price has skills and athleticism any coach would love and he can consistently create opportunities for himself and others. Word to the wise college coaches: the transfer portal won’t have many guys this talented…
6’3 G Roosevelt “Tru” Washington of Arizona Compass
Washington is another guy who has to share the wealth with an array of talented teammates (and consequently he does not stand out as much). He is an elite shooter with a gunslinger’s mentality who has deep range. He will take the big shot when the money is on the line. He plays with a ton of confidence and a good feel for the game. Washington will be a “sneaker” on the recruiting front- somebody is going to sneak him out of there at a pretty high level.
