Continue Reading2B basketball will be a dogfight come playoff time. There is talent in the senior class but most of these teams are loaded with underclassmen. The journey to Spokane won’t be easy no matter what route you take. Here’s my top pre-season teams from the 2B.
Brewster
How do you not put them on or near the top, having played in the last two championship games. They also have one of the best prospects in the state regardless of class.
He’s a 6’6 scoring machine and a four year starter who has played in two title games already. He’s able to play any position on the floor and has a great shooting touch from long distance. He’s also great off the bounce, creating space and shooting it off the dribble. He plays more as a guard but will get buckets from anywhere.
Highlights
He had himself a good state tournament last year and led Brewster in scoring when Gebbers went down due to injury. He pressured the ball on top and got steals and easy layups. He made threes. He handled the ball. He was their best player when Gebbers was out.
Cort Gebbers
Cort Gebbers
The brother of Kelson did well last year as a freshman starter. He plays more of a true post player role. He stepped up as, well when brother Kelson was injured.
Columbia Burbank
They are young with two freshman that started last season. Only thing is, those two were number 1 and 2 in the MVP voting for their league. They have a trio of guards back who are are extremely talented.
A versatile player with great size for a guard. He’s a good shooter and routinely hits open looks from deep. He’ll also help out with his rebounding and can get out and run with the other two I will mention. Burbank will be tough for years to come.
MVP of his league as a freshman. He’s a strong guard who can score on all levels. He’s also great at running the floor and getting to the basket. He’ll make shots from long distance as well.
Michael Lenke
Michael Lenke
He’s the only senior of the trio. He’s busy with football, playing QB on a good team with state aspirations. He’s a solid guard who likes to get downhill and score on drives to the hoop. He’s also a threat to hit the three ball but is best getting downhill and running the floor with the other two.
Okanogan
He averaged over 17 a game last season while shooting over 40% from three. Good size for a guard and a great shooting touch. He’ll be one of the best players in 2B. He sees the floor well while running the point for Okanagan.
This should be one of the best one-two combos in 2B. He averaged around 11PPG last year. Big kid who creates space in the paint.
Morton-White Pass
One of the best and most senior laden teams in 2B. They got a little boost with an all league transfer point guard.
Probably the best big man in all of 2B. He was a force in the paint last year and led MWP to a 5th place finish at the state tournament. He’s not only big, but he can also shoot from distance, and has a nice touch from mid-range. He does most of his damage in the paint on offensive rebounds and getting lay ups.
Jake Cournyer
Jake Cournyer
He transferred from Toledo after last season. He gives them a true point guard who is an excellent ball handler. His floor game is solid all around and he can also hit shots from long distance. All league player from last year, he’s got a high basketball IQ and is one of the best at handling the rock in the 2B classification.
Hunter Hazen
Hunter Hazen
A true glue guy who will do the dirty work. He was an important piece of their 5th place team from a year ago. He gets you rebounds, runs the floor, and plays hard all the time. Great teammate to have on your side.
Davenport
Davenport features the most athletic player in 2B, and one of the highest ranked prospects in all classifications. They missed the state tournament a year ago. He’s going to be a handful and will put up big time numbers.
Adna
He leads a trio of juniors and is one of the best point guards in 2B. He got 16PPG on his way to a 1st team all league selection in the Central 2B. He is excellent at getting downhill and can finish in the paint. He can shoot it too, but his strength is getting by the defense and either scoring or dishing to an open teammate.
Toutle
rnHe’s a 2B player of the year candidate. Scored 26PPG last year. He’s a walking bucket and can score from all levels. He’s got decent size for a guard and can also post up and score over smaller players. He’s tough to stop and can make tough shots on a regular basis. He’s great at getting downhill and lethal from anywhere.
Napavine
He leads a, trio of talented junior guards and a couple of sophomores. Averaged 20PPG and was a 1st team all Central 2B pick last year. He can get you buckets, whether it’s getting to the rack or knocking down threes, which he does at a high percentage. He’s gotten better every year, and is better and stronger once again this year.
