There were 17 teams in attendance and over 20 college coaches in the building, giving players a great chance for exposure.
Here, we take a look at part one of some of the top performers from the Virginia high school programs in attendance.
You can watch all of the games live on the CBG Live Network.
James Morrow | 6’7” PF | Fork Union 2023
Morrow caught our eyes early in FUMA’s first game as the 6’7” forward has a terrific frame and at FUMA they always do a good job filling out their prospects, but he’s already there. He’s a super strong and explosive player in the paint who is intimidating as a shot blocker, he crashes the glass for extra opportunities and he runs the floor hard too.
Nivek Borden | 6’9” C | Fork Union 2023
Borden was fantastic for FUMA in their two games, showing that he’s a viable option to play through in the post and has a great feel as a scorer and distributor in the paint. At 6’9” he has long arms and moves well for his size, he has great patience in the post and sees doubles and makes good passes out of them and he’s great at feeling bodies and spinning off or coming to the middle to hit the jump hook.
Carmelo Pacheco | 6’4” WG | Fork Union 2023
Pacheco was one of VA’s best as an All State performer the last two years at Spotswood, and he’s set to have a big season in the Elite Prep League. The 6’4” wing is starting to fill out and get more athletic both laterally and explosively, he is a big time shooter who knocks it down consistently and with good range and he is improving as a secondary ball handler too.
Adrian Myers Adrian Myers 6'5" | SF Massanutten | 2023 State VA | 6’7” PF | Massanutten 2023
Myers came fresh off the plane from an official visit at Mississippi State and wasted no time getting to it as he caught a massive put back on the first shot of the game and it set the tone for how good he was going to be on the day. The 6’7” forward showed what has high major coaches coming his way as he had a number of highlight worthy finishes above the rim, he showed his ability to rebound and start the break and he shot the ball well from deep and was one of the top scorers in the event.
Troy McKoy Troy McKoy 6'4" | SG Cushing Academy (MA) | 2024 #200 Nation NLG | 6’5” WF | Massanutten 2024
McKoy is one of the 2024 prospects I expect to blow up in the Elite Prep League and while he got hurt in the second game of the Showdown he still showed in his time why he is starting to get national attention. The 6’5” wing is a big time scorer who can play on the ball and create shots for himself easily, he’s strong enough to finish around the rim and in traffic and he shoots the ball exceptionally well from deep and he’s able to create shots at any moment when he has the ball.
Tre Powell | 6’3” CG | TPLS 2023
Powell is part of an up and coming TPLS group that competed well at the event, and the 2023 combo guard is one for coaches to keep an eye on this year. At 6’3” he has good positional size and uses that to his advantage on both ends of the floor, he is adept at getting to spots and making tough shots from multiple levels and he has a toughness about him that is infectious to his team.
