So instead, I’m opting to break down prospects by area. Here’s a look at the top players in Louisville. This list is not meant to be a ranking of best college prospects. This is a ranking of best high school players in the city.
Keith is super effective on both ends of the court and has the intangibles that you look for in a great player. He’s a vocal leader but also leads by example with his blue collar work ethic and tireless hustle on both ends of the court.
Crew is like a taller version of Keith in the way that he effects the game on both ends of the court. Gibson plays hard and can be a real mismatch for opposing teams all over the offensive end of the floor.
Highlights
Damone is the engine that makes Manual go and he really established himself as the top guard in the city last season. While they didn’t have a ton of expectations last season, look for King and Manual to have some pressure to make a run to Rupp this season in the 7th region.
Jack has to be working on some kind of lifetime achievement award as it seems like he’s been playing high school ball in Louisville since the early 2000s. Edelen is a high IQ point that will likely need to score the ball a lot more for Male to be in contention this season.
Highlights
McClain has been an impact player for the Rocks for 4 years now and is going to be in the mix for first team all region for sure. Cam has taken his game to new heights over the last 2 years and made himself an offensive weapon who can score all over the floor.
House is nearly impossible to keep out of the paint when he wants to. He’s cat quick and shifty and can finish through contact thanks to his strong upper body. Quel’ron could make a case that he’s the top guard in the city this year if he maintains his high level play.
At last check, Vasser was ineligible at Trinity so he may be delayed on when he makes his debut for the Rocks. Regardless of that scenario, Drae is quick and effective with the ball in his hands but the thing I like the most is how he plays with a chip on his shoulder and with the toughness that the best guards from the Derby City play with.
Jacob is often overlooked when talking about the top 10 players in the city but he deserves his spot on this list. Tucker is a two way player who can knock down perimeter shots but excels at attacking the rim and will absolutely try to dunk on an opponent if they try to jump with him.
The leader of one of the most talented teams in the state, Hinkle gets overlooked at Western sometimes but he’s the veteran floor general of the Warriors and the player who is most likely to take and make the big shot for Western. He’s also an awesome teammate.
Malonga has the most long term potential of about anyone in the city but he’s still figuring out the game as he’s only been playing for a few years now. Cyr committed to East Carolina and will have a chance to average 15 and 10 every night out this season. His best basketball is all still ahead of him.
