This will be part three of three in a series of articles focusing on players in Albuquerque. We’ll breakdown players ranked 5-1 in the ’23, ’24 and ’25 classes.
#1. Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez 6'0" | PG Del Norte | 2023 State NM is easily the best player in the City of Albuquerque and arguably the best player in New Mexico in general. When you look at his resume through his first three years at Del Norte High School, it’s incredible to say he has one season left this upcoming year. He was selected as the New Mexico Freshman of the Year by Rivals 247. He helped lead Del Norte to their first ever State Championship in 2021 as a sophomore. Shane was selected as the State Tournament MVP, 4A Player of the Year and District Player of the Year. He has been selected to the all-district team all three years, 1st team all-state the last two years and the all-metro the previous two seasons as well. He also led Del Norte back to the 4A State Championship game last season as a junior following a serious knee injury that sidelined him during the first half of the season. For the second straight year, Shane made the first team on the all-tournament team and was the District player of the Year. Throughout Shane’s three-year career at Del Norte High School, he has averaged 17.8 points per game and is approaching the 1,000-point milestone this season. Expect Shane to receive more offers this season.
#2. Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM has a bright future ahead of him and its scary to think how high his potential is. After winning a 5A State Championship with the Volcano Vista Hawks as a freshman, he took his play too another level in the off-season. Despite only going into what will be his sophomore year, Kenyon is already dominating other big men across the state. He is more than just holding his own on the court, he is a player who constantly stand out among the rest. He is ahead of many of his peers with his low-post play and back-to-the-basket offensive game. Kenyon has all the fundamentals a high school coach wants their star big men to have. Kenyon uses his size to his advantage and has a solid touch around the basket. He is a good rebounder and defender who can impact those areas of the floor as well. He is arguably already the top big man in the community.
Highlights
#3. Daniel Jacobsen Daniel Jacobsen 7'2" | C Brewster Academy | 2024 State NLG the La Cueva big man has a lot of potential going forward. A few months ago, he announced via Twitter, that he received a Division-1 offer from New Mexico State University from Head Coach Greg Heiar. He will be the tallest player in New Mexico heading into the upcoming season being listed at “7’1”. Daniel moves around the court really well and has good anticipation grabbing rebounds and blocking shots on defense. Daniel is solid around the rim and has a nice floater/hook shot he uses which is hard to defend at his size. He has a nice shooting form to where its unguardable to block against and he can shoot over the top of anyone. I expect a big year from Daniel Jacobsen Daniel Jacobsen 7'2" | C Brewster Academy | 2024 State NLG and the La Cueva Bears.
#4. Chris Parra is going into his final season of his fabulous high school career for the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars. I have covered him now for four years and over that time, I’ve seen incredible growth in his game. Each season, he adds a new element to his game and has become the undisputed leader and face for the Jaguars over the years. Along with his elite playmaking, he is one of the best marksmen from long-range in New Mexico. After being known as a dangerous three-point shooter for a few years, Chris added putting the basketball on the floor in his game and attacked the basket more often over the past year. His leadership is what stands out the most and will be pivotal in making one last run at the 5A State Championship as a senior this year.
#5. Alexis Domiguez has had a remarkable career at Highland High School over the last three years. He is coming off winning his first 4A State Championship last season and looks to lead the Hornets this season as a senior in their title defense. Alexis is a dual-threat point guard who can score and pass the ball at an elite level. He has a nice three-point shot that opens up the rest of his game inside the arc. Alexis can be a pull up shooter and a catch-and-shoot player. He can create his own shot off the dribble as well as make plays for his teammates. When he gets in the zone offensively, he is incredibly difficult to contain. Many people are writing off the defending champion; Highland Hornets but, they still have great coaching, good players and their star player Alexis Dominguez Alexis Dominguez 5'10" | PG Highlands | 2023 State NM leading the way.
