Names like five-star recruits Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA , Rahmir Barno Rahmir Barno 5'10" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #223 Nation PA and Sultan Adewale Sultan Adewale 6'8" | SF Neumann-Goretti | 2023 State #205 Nation PA .
So today we scoured the Pennsylvania Class of 2023 rankings in order to reveal five players who earlier this week appeared in our 2023 rankings for the first time.
Below is a review of five southeastern Pennsylvania 2023 prospects who made their rankings debut in our latest update.
NR to 120… Anthony Finkley Anthony Finkley 6'6" | SF Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA – 6’6” / Roman Catholic / K-Low Elite / Wing: Finkley’s case is more of a “return” then a “debut”, as this unique Philly grown talent spent most of last season at Huntington Prep (WV) before departing the school at winter break. He enrolled at Roman Catholic in January but did not receive clearance to compete in games for 2021-22. Finkley is an extremely versatile and athletic baller who excels in a point-forward role. He owns smooth dribble drive skills, excellent court vision / passing skills and can splash threes. On the interior, Finkley’s length and smooth footwork allow him to score from either block. He is committed to Saint Joe’s.
NR to 270… Jermai Stewart-Herring Jermai Stewart-Herring 6'5" | CG Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA – 6’3” / Roman Catholic / We R1 / Combo Guard: Another recent transfer recent (from St. Elizabeth in DE) makes a noteworthy debut in our rankings. Stewart-Herring (pic above) is an All-State player who comes with an astonishing stat line — 21 ppg. & 10 rpg. as well as the 2021-22 Diamond Conference POY award. At Philly HS Live Session I Stewart-Herring suited up for Roman Catholic and he proved to be a superb athlete who thrives on the breakout and can play above the rim. In a grinding, half-court style contest, Stewart-Herring can score at all three levels. Plus, Stewart-Herring is an intense competitor who is willing to defend for 94 feet.
NR to 297…Ryan Zan – 6’7″ / Perkiomen School / East Coast Cyclones / Power Forward: Zan is a former Rutgers Prep (NJ) standout (15 ppg. & 9.5 rpg.) who began making a name for himself here in Pennsylvania during the June high school live period. His level of play jumped several notches during grassroots events in July. At the AC Jam Fest, he recorded two 20 & 10 games including a 29-point performance vs. Team Richmond (VA). Zan scores in the paint with ease, especially via the offensive glass. Additionally, Zan can operate in the mid-range by knocking down jumpers. Or he can execute a smooth ball fake, then put the ball on the deck and get to the rim.
NR to 390… Matt Christian Matt Christian 6'3" | CG Methacton | 2023 State PA – 6’3” / Methacton / Eastern PA Elite / Shooting Guard: With the graduation of several star players, this summer Christian ascended to the No. 1 scoring option for Methacton and quickly leaped into our rankings. He is sneaky athletic, owns a high basketball IQ and a large wingspan. At Philly HS Live Session II, Christian scored the rock at all 3-levels as he posted 33-points against ACIT and then 27-points vs. ND-GP. His ability to shoot over double teams is astonishing. Christian’s positioning skills, tenacity and nose for the ball make him a tremendous rebounder at both ends. We are expecting a monster 2022-23 season from Christian.
NR to 446… Ryan Deininger Ryan Deininger 6'2" | SG North Penn | 2023 PA – 6’2” / North Penn / PA Running Aces / Wing: When this lefty is not draining threes from all over the court, he is filling the wing on the fast break and finishing at the rim through contact. Deininger’s length, speed and elusive dribbling skills allow him to be an effective half-court scoring threat as well. His extraordinary basketball IQ, good court vision and feel for the game make Deininger a creative distributor. Deininger plays with an extra level of intensity and energy that is obvious.
