Like forward Allen Graves Allen Graves 6'9" | PF Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA , many other guards and forwards have begun to catch the eye of coaches regionally and nationally. Because of the talent this class has, they might some of the most highly recruited players Louisiana has had in a few years. In this PHLA exclusive, we will take a look at the players who saw their stock rise in the latest 2024 rankings.
Turner Duncan Turner Duncan 6'3" | PG St. Augustine | 2024 State LA (6’3″ / St. Augustine)
The Purple Knight guard has shown that he is very good on or off of the ball. At the point, Duncan is a threat to score which opens up passing lanes for him. His ability to penetrate, along with his athleticism, makes a big difference as well. Off the ball, his shooting prowess makes him a legit threat from multiple levels on the floor. His rise to the top ten is no joke. Duncan is a very good guard with legit Division I potential.
Jordan Comanche Jordan Comanche 6'6" | CG Wossman | 2024 State LA (6’5″ / Wossman)
Comanche has taken the reins of playing point guard at Wossman and has done well. He places pressure on defenses because he can get to the rim driving past players his size who defend him while shooting over smaller guards. He has a high basketball IQ as well and seems to know when to score and when to pass. Comanche has become a top 15 player because of what he can do and the potential he has to be a difference maker.
Howard Gaskins Howard Gaskins 6'1" | PG Liberty Magnet | 2024 State LA (6’1″ / Liberty)
Gaskins was one of the best point guards playing across the state this summer. He has the ability to attack in the half court while still thinking pass first which is rare. Gaskins knows how to get to his spots and even probes the paint to score or pass. In transition, he makes the proper pass at all times. His rise from the mid-60s to a top 25 player is no fluke. He has picked up a couple of offers also which echo that sentiment.
Michael Mouton Michael Mouton 6'5" | SG St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (6’4″ / St. Thomas More)
The wing out of St. Thomas More has shown that he can do multiple things on the floor in the past. However, he has risen to a top 35 player because he has gotten better at them. He has become almost automatic from behind the arc and his rebounding and finishing in the paint has improved as he has gotten older. Mouton is turning himself into a player who will definitely contribute at the next level.
Jeremiah Lewis Jeremiah Lewis 6'3" | SG Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA (6’1″ / Ponchatoula)
Lewis is one of those guards who just keeps getting better and better every time he steps on a court. While he can be a streaky shooter, getting to the rim is his best attribute. Lewis can elevate and embarrass a defender at the rim or he can use his quick first step to blow by. He is an excellent finisher in transition along with a guard who reads turning lanes. Lewis will be a steal for a school on the next level.
Lionel Larvadain Lionel Larvadain 6'0" | PG McMain | 2024 State LA (5’10” / McMain)
The McMain point guard is lightning quick in transition and in the half court. Defenders try as they may to stay in front of him and it is an almost impossible task. Larvadain also has excellent elevation for a small guard which allows him to finish amidst any type of contact. With his quick hands and speed, Lionel also causes trouble defensively for other guards. His accent to the top 50 is due to the before-mentioned reasons.
Jamadrion Lilliard (6’3″ / Ruston)
Lilliard is one of those players that a basketball team needs to be successful. He is a player who can guard three to four positions on a high school court because of his length and basketball IQ. Lilliard can guard small guards, wings, and small ball bigs. On offense, he can play point or off the ball. He can attack from multiple areas on the floor which makes him very dangerous. Lilliard has become a top 50 player because of it.
Konner Cotton (6’2″ / Calvary Baptist)
Cotton has shown that he can be a high level defender this summer. He reads the floor well and knows when to help off of his man. Cotton has also improved in transition and has become decisive when attacking the rim. He is also a capable outside shooter which is something the Cavs will need playing without a big man for the first time in 4 years. Cotton is top 75 now but has the tools to move up much higher.
The stock risers in this article have all improved as they play on teams that are highly competitive. They seemed to have really taken the challenge of getting better which should help their teams as well. The players in the article have a ton of potential and will be players to watch this season.
