We got a chance to see some bigs from the small schools who we will be watching closely this winter:
Andy Baker
Andy Baker
This big man will be ready to make an impact as a sophomore. He’s powerful and not afraid to throw himself in the fray. He goes after every board like he owns it. He’s a hard worker who runs the floor and gets involved in transition. When he gets on the block, he’s got good fundamentals and the frame to dominate.
A double-double candidate every time out, Hildebrand blocks shots and is an active post. Stafford returns some talent and could build on a fine season a year ago. Look for Hildebrand to take his production to another level.
This long forward plays more of a wing on his Western Kansas Elite club team, but at 6-foot-3, he’ll be one of the taller players when he battles in 2A next season. He is tough around the goal, finishing with tenacity. He does the things a big needs to do – denying entry passes, bodying up posts, crashing the boards. But he also can run the floor, face the basket, put the ball on the floor and get to the goal or drop the floater.
Jaron Lindsay

Lindsay was a big part of Bucklin’s state team last year, putting in 10 points and 7 rebounds as a junior. His experience with the Bucklin guards prepared him for the up-tempo style of Western Kansas Elite this summer. He can run, crashes the boards and defends well in the paint. He knows how to support dynamic guards.
Josh Zarybnicky

If you’re looking for a guy whose role is about to expand exponentially, this might be the one. He’s been part of that deep and athletic Hanover team the past two seasons. The Wildcats graduate a ton of production. Look for Zarybnicky to to seize the opportunity to get more involved offensively. His 8 points and 5 rebounds might just double.
