In the gym at McBride High School, several players continued the theme by lighting up the nets and making it rain from all over the court.
Tounde Yessoufou
Tounde Yessoufou
The most impressive player of the tournament who keeps increasing his stock. With the court being packed with media looking to capture the next Corona Centennial highlight reel, Yessoufou turned the tables and made a night for himself. The 6’6″ wing was impressive in all facets of the game. On offense, Yessoufou had an amazing output scoring on all 3 levels. From the perimeter, Tounde was able to score in a variety of ways: catch and shoot, pull ups, side steps, and 3 balls off the pump fake. His creativity along with his deep scoring range opened up other facets of his game. Yessoufou also displays a fadeaway jumper from midrange, and an athletic prowess to get to the rim. The St. Joseph wing finished several high flying alley oops including a poster that had the gym going crazy. With his output as only a sophomore, the future looks bright as Yessoufou will be a household name for years to come.
If scoring is what you ask for, Phipps will give you what you need. The 6’1″ guard from St. Mary’s in Arizona had a huge output on Saturday, starting the day off with 55 pts against Middlebrooks Academy. A few hours later, Phipps put up a game high 31 against Mikey Williams Mikey Williams 6’3″ | CG San Ysidro | 2023 State #12 Nation CA-S ‘ Ysidro squad. Styles, true to his name, can score in many different “styles.” On the perimeter he utilizes pull ups and does a good job of utilizing screens to get his shot off and also to create for others. Once he starts hitting from outside, Phipps is able to get his defender to bite off of head fakes and pump fakes and will do more damage getting to the rim. One of the top prospects in Arizona.
Highlights
Rolison bursted out the gates on fire and tallied up points in a hurry. The St. Bernard’s guard displayed tremendous burst, speed, and craftiness on his handle. As Bishop Gorman stayed in a full court trap, Rolison singlehandedly broke the the defense down and got the ball in the bucket. His confidence in his pull up jumper is through the roof. The 6 ft guard displayed limitless range on his shot, knocking down the long range 3 ball several times on both pull ups and jab steps. His scoring ability combined with his speed allow him to take his game to another gear. If colleges are looking for a microwave who can heat up and fill buckets in a hurry, Rolison is a great sparkplug to take a look at.
An athletic speciman who can do it all. Beverly took advantage of Hillcrest without Dennis Evans Dennis Evans 7’1″ | C Hillcrest | 2023 State #28 Nation CA-S protecting the rim and put on a show. The 6’7″ wing got to the rim at will and put his athletic prowess on display. Beverly is an elite athlete and slasher who causes havoc to the rim. He has good body control on his drives and can finish with a thunderous jam or with creativity and craftiness. Beverly put several defenders on posters and finished everything around the rim. He also displayed his potential on the perimeter with the 3 ball off the dribble. The 6’7″ wing hit one off a step back and another one off a crossover. Love the potential of Beverly.
In his first game return to Los Angeles and Ron Massey Fall Tournament, Mikey did not disappoint. Matched up against highly touted Carter Bryant Carter Bryant 6’8″ | SF Corona Centennial (CA) | 2024 State #12 Nation CA-S and Sage Hill, Williams put on a show with a 31 point triple double. Williams did his scoring output in a number of ways. Rarely settling for a jumper, Mikey had his slashing and creativity on full display. The crowd was ooh and aahed with his one hand throw downs and acrobatic finishes at the rim. He utilized spins in traffic and correctly timed gathers to create for himself. You can see the maturity in his game as he’s gotten better every year to live up to the hype his name brings.
