Continue ReadingThe Updated Prephoops Rankings will be released beginning with the class of 2023, Monday, Sept 26th. This will without a doubt be our most extensive class to date, with several classes seeing a significant increase in players. The class of 2025 featured several players that had strong freshman seasons. Traditionally it’s that sophomore year where a player really puts himself on the map. We’re looking to see who’s going to avoid the dreaded 2nd-year slump and who will be prepared for a breakout sophomore season.
CJ Shaw CJ Shaw 6'3" | SG Mojave | 2025 State #212 Nation NV 6’3 SG Mojave (#4) – People got a glimpse of Shaw last season, as he led the Rattlers to a state title. After a strong summer, look for his name to start making the way around recruiting radars, as the scoring guard possesses an efficient and smooth offensive game.
Nick Jefferson Nick Jefferson 6'2" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2025 State #324 Nation NV 6’1 PG Bishop Gorman (#11) (featured image) – Jefferson is over at Bishop Gorman I think this is an important factor as the guard seems to have the ability to play better the bigger the game, so look for him to have a bunch of opportunities to shine under the bright lights throughout the season.
Brian Townsend Brian Townsend 6'4" | SF Arbor View | 2025 State NV 6’4 SF Arbor View (#16) – Really interested to see how the Chef does this year. He has good size and his skill level improved every time I saw him. He’ll be a key member of what could be a really good Arbor View squad. He had a decent freshmen season, so I’m looking to see him improve in his second year.
Zak Abdalla Zak Abdalla 6'2" | SG Foothill | 2025 State NV 6’0 SG Foothill (#10) – Abdalla had one of the best-underrated performances of the season last year. Going off for a 30-plus point effort in the last game of the year against Gorman. That could be a preview of things to come, as the guard seems poised for a big year.
Lonnie Bass Jr Lonnie Bass Jr 6'8" | PF Mater East | 2025 State NV 6’7 PF Mater East (#12) – Bass is a name that people may want to learn. The big man has gradually added to his offensive game over the last year. He started out primarily as a glass cleaner but now has improved his footwork and overall low post-scoring.
Tayshaun Jackson Tayshaun Jackson 5'7" | PG Las Vegas | 2025 State NV 5’5 PG Las Vegas (#14) – I haven’t seen much of Jackson this summer so obviously a bit disappointed, I however have confidence in the young PG’s game and competitive spirit. Jackson is one of the top on-ball defenders in the state, with elite lateral quickness and football-style toughness.
Xavion Staton Xavion Staton 7'0" | C Sierra Vista | 2025 State #121 Nation NV 6’10 C Sierra Vista (#50) – I’ve been raving about Staton ever since my Sierra Vista Team Preview article a few weeks ago. His size is a given, but the big man is starting to play with a little edge. He runs the floor well, and if he only improves incrementally over the next couple of seasons, we could be looking at a D1 prospect.
