Strong arguments could be made for any of the players listed on the first team to garner this POY honor, but we’ll side with Orness. He’s a big scoring threat from all three levels for a Humboldt team that we think will win the league again this season.
First Team
2023 Will Orness Will Orness 6'1" | SG Humboldt | 2023 State IA (Humboldt): 13.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists
Only two players in the state, regardless of class, fired up more 3-point attempts than Orness did last year. A high-volume shooter who can get hot and carry this group offensively, he’ll be asked to be a bit more of a playmaker as a senior following the graduations of a few key ball-handlers.
2024 Scott Harr Scott Harr 6'4" | C Hampton-Dumont | 2024 State IA (Hampton-Dumont-CAL): 13.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 steals, 51.8 FG%
A strong, physical 6-4 forward, Harr is a walking double-double who showed last year that he’s also a good enough passer that the offense can flow through him. He’s an efficient finisher around the rim and a dominant rebounder.
2023 Jaime Grossoehme Jaime Grossoehme 6'1" | SG Webster City | 2023 State IA (Webster City): 14.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 48.2 FG%, 47.9 3P%
Grossoehme has established himself as an elite 3-point shooting threat, using his smooth lefty stroke to bury nearly 48% of his 3s last season.
2023 Ty McKinney Ty McKinney 6'0" | PG Webster City | 2023 State IA (Webster City): 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals
The straw that stirs the drink for the Lynx, McKinney is a quick guard who does a great job playing downhill and attacking the bucket. He’s a good passer with solid court vision who likes to get others involved.
2023 Travaughn Luyobya Travaughn Luyobya 5'10" | PG Clear Lake | 2023 State IA (Clear Lake): 10.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.6 steals
A true pass-first guard who thrives getting others involved, Luyobya also does a tremendous job protecting the ball, posting a 2.8-1 assist-to-turnover ratio last season. He’s also a pest on the defensive end with quick feet and hands.
Second Team
2025 Thomas Meyer Thomas Meyer 6'4" | SF Clear Lake | 2025 State IA (Clear Lake)
