Team Medlock (Team #6) vs. Team Marshall Ashley (#1)
Medlock 2-4 1A, 2 blocks (7p)
The “Team Anthony Medlock” first half was running through Anthony Medlock offensively. He surged right into the lane and made moderately difficult layups. The physicality and speed of Medlock distanced him from the masses.
When Marshall Ashley checked him, Medlock and his team did nearly nothing. Ashley got up in his shirt, made a simple inbounds pass to Medlock frustratingly hard. So much so that Medlock looked longingly at the ref, as it to say, don’t let him deny so assertively. Finally, Medlock’s teammate just passed a different guard an the play unfolded meekly. In the second half, Medlock did score on Ashley with a challenging though beautiful corner jumper.
Watch a snippet of Team Ashley in action.
Mj Floyd (Team Medlock) hit a three-pointer over Casey Williams Casey Williams 6'8" | PF Norcross | 2024 State GA (Team Ashley). He was not jet quick, but fast enough. During another possession, Floyd sensed a trap from his blindside and dribbled away from it quickly.
Charvez Ambrose Charvez Ambrose 6'5" | SG Bartlett | 2023 State TN dominated play. Watch him hit a three-pointer above. Charvez wore #228. He looked the part of a D1 player. His handle is so much better than he was able to demonstrate during his junior year. The great guard teammates at Bartlett removed the opportunity for Ambrose to dribble out of trouble and dribble to create. Saturday, he proved that he is an adept dribbler, with that wonderful escapablity. It was not clear if he can guard an elite college point guard, because there simply were not any on the other team. But, he can probably play, at least for spurts, point guard at the D2 level, and combo guard at the LM level. His shooting is one skill that he established last winter as D2+ prospect. The handle is what he showcased Saturday.
A Casey Williams Casey Williams 6'8" | PF Norcross | 2024 State GA up-and-under move was elite. Easy riser. He has the physicality and smoothness of a MM-HM player. He will be something special at the college level. The jumper form is really, really clunky. Needs smoothing out. Later, Williams suffered a horse-collar foul by defender Medlock. Missed the ensuing free throw. Both of them.
Later, Williams made a quick layup when his feet were planted on block. Really comfortable in the post.
Andrew Ford played well in the contest. This was a PrepHoopsTN initial evaluation. Ford was very direct and determined. Slightly above average speed with the basketball. Projects as an NAIA 2-guard.
