Continue ReadingNaylor had a breakout junior year for the Norsemen, helping to lead them to the 2A state tournament, and his all-around offensive arsenal was on full display here. He’s a strong ball-handler who creates his own looks at a really high level. He’s an effective shooter off the bounce, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly and he has a ton of range. He did a good job absorbing contact and finishing through it on multiple occasions as well.
A 6-0 off-ball guard, Treatow does a really good job moving without the ball in his hands, catching his defender sleeping on backdoor cuts or finding open spaces to get his shot off. He’s a really good passer who sees the floor well and the ball never sticks when he gets it.

Wynter had a breakout state tournament for the state champion Cyclones, routinely knocking down 3s off the catch. He’ll have a chance to take over this Ames team this season, and he had a really good all-around day on Saturday, showing he can impact the game on both ends of the floor with his activity, IQ, and length. He has a great wingspan that he uses to get into passing lanes and contest shots, and he’s one of the best shooters in the state off the catch, showcasing his smooth lefty stroke.
Wagemester seems to really take pride in his defense, sitting in his stance and moving his feet really well on that end of the floor. He’s a competitor who does a great job battling on the glass on both ends of the floor, and he’s a really good and willing passer with great court vision. He’s the type of player who isn’t going to blow you away with any one thing that he does, but he’s going to do everything well, limit mistakes, and contribute to a winning team at any level.

Potts is a key piece of a talented 2025 class at Senior. A 6-2 wing who can pull down a defensive rebound and lead the break, he showed really good court vision and passing instincts with the ball in his hands. He can get to the rim and finish through contact, and he’ll compete hard on the defensive end.
We all know that Born can score in bunches, but what stood out the most about his performance last Saturday was his stellar play on the defensive end. He sat in his stance and moved his feet incredibly well throughout the afternoon, staying in front of opposing ball-handlers and fighting hard through screens. He’s obviously a talented all-around offensive weapon who can create for himself and others while scoring from all three levels, but that type of play on defense is big as he entered a crucial stage in his recruitment. He’s a high IQ player who is always under control and balanced.
Stroud was a new name for me, but he played really well in the game that I watched. A mobile 6-6 big man who runs the floor well, he has really good hands that he used to rebound well on both ends of the floor as well as make contested catches in the pick-and-roll game. He’s a good finisher around the bucket with his left. He showed some ability to put the ball on the floor, catching at the top of the key as the trail man on the break, taking a few hard dribbles, and getting to the bucket, plus the foul.
